SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korean leader Kim Jong Un was expected to tour a Russian plant that builds fighter jets and visit the country’s Pacific Fleet, but his exact whereabouts remained uncertain Thursday following a summit at which he expressed unconditional support for Moscow.

PM Anwar wants Malaysia to become a stellar country

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 13 (NNN-Bernama) — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim shared his vision for Malaysia to regain the status it achieved in the 1990s and become a stellar country in this region – economically, politically, with good governance, and as a showcase of a multiracial society.

Speaking at the Milken Institute Asia Summit 2023 in Singapore on Wednesday, Anwar said given the present scenario and the team, he is optimistic that the goals could be achieved.

Taiwan reports 28 Chinese air force planes in its air defence zone

TAIPEI, Sept 13 (Reuters) - Taiwan's defence ministry said it spotted 28 Chinese air force planes in its air defence zone on Wednesday morning, part of what Taipei calls regular harassment by Beijing amid heightened tensions across the Taiwan Strait.

Democratically-governed Taiwan, which China views as its own territory, has complained in recent years of stepped-up Chinese military activities near the island as Beijing seeks to assert its sovereignty claims.

Japanese PM reshuffles cabinet amid slipping support rates

TOKYO, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida on Wednesday revamped his cabinet and the executive lineup of the ruling Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) as public support for the government is waning.

The second cabinet reshuffle by Kishida since last year included changes to 13 out of 19 ministers, with 11 of them entering the cabinet for the first time.

Myanmar to participate in 20th China-ASEAN Expo with 80 booths

YANGON, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Myanmar will exhibit its products at the 20th China-ASEAN Expo with 80 booths, Htein Lin, deputy director-general of Myanmar Trade Promotion Organization under the Ministry of Commerce, told Xinhua on Wednesday.

Myanmar's entrepreneurs from 75 companies will showcase agricultural products, food products, aquatic products and gems and jewelry during the four-day trade fair.

Fire in Vietnam’s capital kills at least 56 when it engulfs an apartment building

HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — A fire in a nine-story apartment building in Vietnam’s capital killed at least 56 people, including at least four children, and injured at least 37, authorities said Wednesday

The fire started just before midnight Tuesday in a building housing about 150 residents. Firefighters contained the blaze, but the building’s location at end of a narrow alley made rescue operations difficult. Dozens of people remained trapped in the building until after dawn, state media reports said.

The son of ousted Myanmar leader Aung San Suu Kyi says he’s increasingly worried about her health

BANGKOK (AP) — The younger son of ousted Myanmar leader Aung Sang Suu Kyi says he has always avoided talking to the media, but this time is different. He’s increasingly worried about his imprisoned 78-year-old mother’s health and about Myanmar’s violent political crisis, which he calls desperate.

“I’d just really like to have some form of contact with her so that I know that she’s OK, because at the moment she has no access to her legal counsel,” Kim Aris said Wednesday in a video interview with The Associated Press from his home in London.

North Korea’s Kim vows full support for Russia at a summit with Putin at a Far East spaceport

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — North Korea’s Kim Jong Un vowed “full and unconditional support” for Russia’s Vladimir Putin on Wednesday as the two leaders isolated by the West held a summit that the U.S. warned could lead to a deal to supply ammunition for Moscow’s war in Ukraine.

The meeting, which lasted over four hours at Russia’s spaceport in the Far East, underscores how the two countries’ interests are aligning: Putin is believed to be seeking one of the few things impoverished North Korea has in abundance -– stockpiles of aging ammunition and rockets for Soviet-era weapons.

Malaysia’s Digital AgTech piques EU-ASEAN Business Council’s interest – minister

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 12 (NNN-Bernama) — The Malaysian Government’s initiative to empower digital technology in the agricultural sector through the eLadang pilot programme, or known as Digital Agriculture Technology (Digital AgTech), has attracted the attention of the European Union (EU)-ASEAN Business Council.

Communications and Digital Minister Fahmi Fadzil mentioned this in a Facebook post after receiving a courtesy call from a council delegation, led by its executive director Chris Humphrey, Tuesday.
