Former CEO of China’s Alibaba quits cloud business in surprise move during its leadership reshuffle

HONG KONG (AP) — The former CEO of Alibaba, Daniel Zhang, resigned as head of its cloud computing unit Monday in a surprise move as the Chinese e-commerce empire wraps up a leadership reshuffle.

Alibaba said it will invest $1 billion in a technology fund Zhang will establish to support the firm’s strategies for future growth.

Zhang stepped down on the same day he gave up his roles as Alibaba’s CEO and chairman.

Myanmar receives first shipment of Russia's Su-30 fighter jets, RIA reports

Sept 10 (Reuters) - Myanmar has received the first shipment of two Russian Su-30 fighter jets, Charlie Than, Myanmar's trade minister, told the Russian RIA state news agency in remarks published on Sunday.

"Two aircraft have already been delivered," Than told RIA on the sidelines of the Eastern Economic Forum, Russia's annual forum aimed at developing economic cooperation in the region and encouraging foreign investment, which starts on Sunday in the port of Vladivostok.

Biden says US outreach to Vietnam is about providing global stability, not containing China

HANOI (AP) — President Joe Biden said Sunday his visit to Vietnam to showcase stronger ties with Hanoi was not about trying to start a “cold war” with China, but rather was part of a broader effort to provide global stability by building U.S. relationships throughout Asia at a time of tensions with Beijing.

“It’s not about containing China,” Biden said at a news conference in Vietnam’s capital after attending the Group of 20 summit in India. “It’s about having a stable base.”

In cat and mouse game, Philippines resupplies troops in South China Sea atoll

SOUTH CHINA SEA, Sept 9 (Reuters) - The Philippines has completed a supply mission for troops stationed in a rusty World War Two-era ship, but not without a usual cat and mouse chase with Chinese vessels in the South China Sea.

Reuters went onboard one of the Philippine Coast Guard's vessels escorting the mission to the Second Thomas Shoal on Friday and witnessed how the Chinese Coast Guard and maritime militia vessels tried to chase and block the Philippine contingent from reaching their destination.

China said the vessels entered the waters without its permission.

Japan says swarms of tourists defiling sacred Mt Fuji

China think tank says India is 'sabotaging' G20 for its own agenda

BEIJING, Sept 9 (Reuters) - India has been trying to take advantage of its role as the host of the G20 Summit to promote its own agenda and harm China's interests, a Chinese think tank affiliated with the country's top spy agency said on Saturday.

The harsh criticism by the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, which is under the Ministry of State Security, comes as G20 leaders began their annual two-day summit, in India's capital New Delhi, with Chinese President Xi Jinping not attending.

DPRK holds paramilitary parade to celebrate 75th founding anniversary

SEOUL, Sept. 9 (Xinhua) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) held a paramilitary parade and a national meeting to celebrate the country's 75th founding anniversary, said the state news agency on Saturday.

The DPRK held the parade at the Kim Il Sung Square in its capital Pyongyang on Friday, with Kim Jong Un, general secretary of the Workers' Party of Korea and president of the State Affairs of the DPRK, in attendance, according to the Korean Central News Agency (KCNA).

Indonesia to carry forward Bandung Spirit -- president

JAKARTA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Indonesian President Joko Widodo said on Friday that his country will continue to carry forward the Bandung Spirit and stands ready to work with China to promote regional cooperation and jointly safeguard regional peace, stability and prosperity.

In talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang, Widodo said Indonesia adheres to the one-China principle. 

Indonesia: ASEAN countries affirm unity, reject bloc confrontation

JAKARTA, Sept. 8 (Xinhua) -- Voices affirming unity and the need to reject bloc confrontation have come under the spotlight in the just-concluded three-day summit here by ASEAN leaders with Asian and Western counterparts.

ASEAN must not be an arena of destructive rivalries, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said during the opening of the 43rd ASEAN Summit on Tuesday. He urged the regional grouping to stay united and not be a proxy to any power.
