China counts on Russia in fight against world hegemony - Chinese Foreign Minister

BEIJING, November 19. /TASS/: Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, during a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov, announced the desire of the Chinese authorities to join forces with Russia to fight global hegemony and the growing protectionism of individual countries, the Chinese Foreign Ministry announced on Thursday.

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (NNN-Bernama) –The recent ASEAN Business and Investment Summit highlighted the importance of fostering digital innovation and economic partnership for the future of the UK-ASEAN ties, particularly in education and digital trade.

UK Secretary of State for International Trade Liz Truss said 2020 has been a challenging year but it has also been a year of greater UK-ASEAN partnership.

“The UK is making a decisive tilt to Indo-Pacific and she looks forward to deepening UK-ASEAN economic and digital relationship,” she said.

Biden’s admin likely to have multilateral approach in trade – Singapore PM

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 19 (NNN-BERNAMA) — US President-elect Joe Biden’s administration is likely to have a more constructive and multilateral approach in trade with other countries, especially within the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region, said Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

He said APEC has made slow progress in the past few years with the approach taken by the Donald Trump administration seen as derailing trade within the region. 

Singapore needs more talent for growth of tech industry: PM Lee

Singapore, Nov 18 (PTI) Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong has said the country needs more talent in technology and hoped that a newly-announced work pass will help it attract "highly accomplished" individuals in the field, a media report said on Wednesday.

Lee, who delivered his keynote speech to the Singapore Tech Forum 2020 on Tuesday night via a Facebook livestream, stressed that talent is key as Singapore develops its technology ecosystem.

Japan considering lifting ban on fully-online shareholder meetings in COVID-19 era

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan will consider allowing companies to hold annual general meetings completely online, a government panel tasked with drafting the country’s growth strategy said on Thursday.

The development comes as COVID-19 has spurred firms to increasingly organise online annual general meetings (AGM) alongside physical ones, which are still required by law in Japan.

Japan’s daily virus cases surge past previous record high

TOKYO (AP) — Japan’s number of reported coronavirus infections hit a record high Thursday, and the prime minister urged maximum caution but stopped short of calling for restrictions on travel or business.

The Health Ministry reported 2,179 new cases, the first time Japan has seen more than 2,000 new daily cases since the pandemic began. The previous high for new cases was 1,723 on Nov. 14.

Azeri leader says Russian, Turkish forces to take part in Karabakh security provision

BAKU, November 18. /TASS/: The Russian and Turkish military personnel will take part in operations to provide security for Azerbaijanis and Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev said on Wednesday.

All the countries of the region supported the joint statement by the leaders of Russia, Azerbaijan and Armenia on the ceasefire in Nagorno-Karabakh, Aliyev said.

16th Central Asia-EU Ministerial Meeting Held To Promote Cooperation

Asian stocks mixed after Wall Street fall on virus worries

BEIJING (AP) — Asian stock markets were mixed Wednesday after Wall Street declined as worries about the long-term impact of the coronavirus pandemic tempered enthusiasm about possible vaccine development.

Benchmarks in Tokyo and Hong Kong declined while Shanghai and Seoul advanced.

Announcements that two developers might be making progress on a coronavirus vaccine has encouraged traders. But rising infection numbers in the United States and Europe has raised the threat of renewed restrictions on business and movement.
