JAPAN: Bach says Tokyo Olympic “participants” may need vaccinations

TOKYO (AP) — Olympic participants and fans arriving for next year’s postponed Tokyo Olympics are likely to face requirements to be vaccinated to protect the Japanese public, IOC President Thomas Bach said Monday after meeting with new Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.

It was Bach’s first meeting with Suga and his first trip to Japan since the Olympics were postponed almost eight months ago.

Fire in Hong Kong apartment building kills 7, injures 11

HONG KONG (AP) — Hong Kong authorities said a fire at an apartment building in a crowded residential district has killed at least seven people and injured another 11.

The blaze occurred Sunday night in Yau Ma Tei, a usually bustling area in Kowloon packed with old apartment blocks, shops and businesses.

The fire broke out in what appeared to be a restaurant that was located in an apartment in a residential building, fire officials said at a news conference early Monday. Officials said the cause of the fire was still unknown.

Pakistan, China working on transportation projects under CPEC in Karachi, Quetta: Ambassador Haque

BEIJING, Nov 15 (APP): Pakistan and China are discussing and working on many other transportation projects under the framework of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) in major cities, including Karachi, capital of Sindh province, and Quetta, capital of Balochistan.

The CPEC, in its first phase, focuses on infrastructure and energy development, referencing Gwadar Port projects in Southwestern Pakistan under the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The port will enhance connectivity between our two countries and the rest of the world, he said in an interview with Global Times.

Japan Reports Record-High Daily COVID-19 Cases For Three Consecutive Days

TOKYO, Nov 15 (NNN-NHK) – Japan yesterday reported 1,733 new COVID-19 cases, renewing a record number of daily infections for the third consecutive day, according to the latest figures from the health ministry and local authorities.

The latest rise in cases brought the nation’s total cases to 117,261, not including those connected to the Diamond Princess cruise ship that was quarantined near Tokyo earlier in the year.

The death toll stands at 1,900, with two new fatalities announced yesterday. The death toll includes 13 from the cruise ship.

Azerbaijan, Armenia exchange bodies of soldiers

14 Nov 2020; MEMO: Azerbaijan and Armenia on Saturday exchanged the bodies of soldiers, who died in the clashes around the city of Susha in Upper Karabakh region, the Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said, Anadolu Agency reports.

In a statement, the ministry said the bodies of soldiers were collected through the intermediary and participation of the Russian peacekeeping forces stationed in the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan.

ASEAN, China, other partners set world’s biggest trade pact

China and 14 other countries agreed Sunday to set up the world’s largest trading bloc, encompassing nearly a third of all economic activity, in a deal many in Asia are hoping will help hasten a recovery from the shocks of the pandemic.

The Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership, or RCEP, was signed virtually on Sunday on the sidelines of the annual summit of the 10-nation Association of Southeast Asian Nations.

Ex-head of Armenian national security detained on suspicion of assassination plot

YEREVAN, November 14. / TASS /: Armenian National Security Service detained its former head, the leader of the Rodina party, Artur Vanetsyan on the suspicion of usurping power and preparing the assassination of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Vanetsyan's lawyer Lusine Sahakyan wrote on her Facebookpage on Saturday.

"Today Artur Vanetsyan was invited to the Investigative Department of the National Security Service and detained. The authorities charged him based on false suspicions of usurping power and preparing the murder of Nikol Pashinyan," she wrote.

Thousands of Thai protesters call for removal of prime minister

BANGKOK (Reuters) - Thousands of people protested in Bangkok on Saturday in the latest in months of anti-government demonstrations that have also called for reforms to Thailand’s powerful monarchy.

A few kilometres away, thousands of royalists gathered in yellow shirts and waved Thai flags as they waited to greet King Maha Vajiralongkorn, who was expected to attend a local event.

The initial focus of protests that began in July was to seek the removal of Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha, a former junta leader.

China suspends two inbound flights over COVID-19 cases

BEIJING, Nov. 13 (Xinhua) -- China's civil aviation regulator announced on Friday the suspension for one week of the Bangladeshi US-Bangla Airlines Dhaka-Guangzhou flight and the Himalaya Airlines Kathmandu-Chongqing flight after several passengers tested positive for COVID-19 on recent flights.

Six passengers tested positive on Bangladeshi US-Bangla Airlines flight BS325 on Nov. 1, while six tested positive on flight H9787 of Himalaya Airlines, a Nepal-China joint venture, on Nov. 4, said the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC).
