Delhi did not vote for 'anti-nationals': Malik mocks BJP

Mumbai, Feb 11 (PTI) Senior NCP leader and Maharashtra minister Nawab Malik on Tuesday mocked the BJP and said the massive mandate to the AAP in the Delhi polls was due to people there accepting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders' appeals "not to vote for anti-nationals".

With counting of votes on, the Arvind Kejriwal-led party has already secured a majority in the 70-member Delhi Assembly and is well on its way to win over 60 seats, leaving the BJP way behind with wins on a handful of seats.

India: Maha govt afraid of anti-CAA protesters: Medha Patkar

Mumbai, Feb 11 (PTI) Activist Medha Patkar on Tuesday said the Maharashtra government was afraid of protesters at 'Mumbai Bagh' in Nagpada, which is why it was using police force to quell them.

Addressing the protesters, Patkar said if the Uddhav Thackeray government has taken a clear stand on Citizenship (Amendment) Act, National Register for Citizens and National Population Register, why was the police interfering.

India: BJP corporator held in extortion case filed by builder

Thane, Feb 10 (PTI) A BJP corporator from Thane in Maharashtra was arrested on Monday in the 2015 case of extorting money from a local builder, police said.

The accused, Narayan Pawar, was booked in December 2015 along with three others when he was with the Congress.

In his FIR, the builder R G Pataskar had claimed that he had purchased a plot from one of the accused persons, Siddimian Sheikh, in 1997.

India: Van driver booked for molesting girl student

Nagpur, Feb 9 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly molested by the driver of her school van in Umred in Maharashtra's Nagpur district last week, police said on Sunday.

Following a complaint lodged by the girl's father, the police have registered an FIR against the 37-year-old driver under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

India: Man held for sexually harassing minor daughter

Nagpur, Feb 9 (PTI) A man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sexually harassing his nearly four-year-old daughter at their residence in Nagpur, police said.

The action against the 37-year-old accused was taken based on a complaint lodged by his wife, an inspector of Kanhan Police Station said.

India: 5 accused of murder, rape escape from Karjat jail

Mumbai, Feb 10 (PTI) Five people arrested for crimes like murder, rape and carrying arms escaped on Sunday evening from Karjat Jail in Maharashtra's Raigad district, some 100 kilometres from here, police said.

The five were identified as Dnyaneshwar Tukaram Kolhe, Akshay Ramdas Raut, Mohan Kundlik More, Chandrakant Mahadev Raut and Gangadhar Jagtap.

India: Man held for sexually assaulting teenage girl in Pune

Pune, Feb 10 (PTI) A 25-year-old man was arrested on Monday in Maharashtra's Pune for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl and threatening her with acid attack if she disclosed the incident, a police official said.

The alleged incident had taken place in Wagholi area on the outskirts of the city.

India: Woman gang-raped & killed in Mumbai, two held

Mumbai, Feb 7 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped and strangled to death by two persons in the western suburb of Santa Cruz here, police said on Friday.

The incident came to light on Thursday evening after the victim's body was found at the residence of one of the accused in Milind Nagar, an official said.

India: Modi govt ignoring needs of soldiers

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) Accusing the Modi government of ignoring the needs of soldiers, the NCP on Wednesday claimed that a "1965-like situation" may arise if they "continue" to face scarcity of basic facilities.

Maharashtra Minister Nawab Malik made the remarks after a CAG report pulled up the government for delay in procurement of special clothing, equipment, snow goggles and multi-purpose boots that are required to be provided to soldiers serving in high altitude areas.

India: FIR against choreographer Ganesh Acharya for `sexual harassment'

Mumbai, Feb 5 (PTI) A First Information Report (FIR) was registered on Wednesday against Bollywood choreographer Ganesh Acharya for allegedly sexually harassing a woman, the city police said.

The FIR, registered at Amboli police station, also named two women, Jayashree Kelkar and Preeti Lad, who are accused of beating up the woman on January 26.
