India: Man seeks Rs 1.5 cr from mother for abandoning him 38 yrs ago

Mumbai, Jan 12 (PTI) A 40-year-old man has moved the Bombay High Court against his biological mother and sought a compensation of Rs 1.5 crore from her for abandoning him in Mumbai when he was two years' old and later refusing to accept him as her son.

The petitioner, Srikant Sabnis, a make-up artist, has said he underwent a life full of agony and mental trauma after being intentionally abandoned in an unknown city, for which his mother Aarti Mhaskar and her second husband Uday Mhaskar (Sabnis's step-father) need to compensate.

India: Man held for raping woman, her niece

Mumbai, Jan 12 (PTI) A 26 year-old man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly raping and making pregnant a 17-year-old girl by threatening to make viral her aunt's sex video with him, Mumbai Police said.

The accused, Azmal Lashkar alias Ashish Dubey, had allegedly raped the 23-year-old woman under the pretext of marriage and filmed the act without her knowledge, a Bangur Police station official said.

According to police, the accused got acquainted with the woman and her niece at a party by posing himself as Ashish Dubey.

Air India cancels 4 Dubai-bound flights

Mumbai , Jan 11 (PTI) Flag carrier Air India on Saturday cancelled four of its flights to Dubai following the waterlogging at Dubai airport in the wake of heavy rains.

Besides, the airline's Calicult-Dubai flight was diverted to Al-Makhtoum airport as it could not land in Dubai, an Air India spokesperson said.

"Due to heavy rains in Dubai and water logging at Dubai airport Air India has cancelled four of its flights to the city on Saturday," the spokesperson said in a statement.

India: WR unions protest plans to have private firms run trains

Mumbai, Jan 10 (PTI) Railway staff affiliated to the Western Railway Mazdoor Sangh on Friday staged a protest in Mumbai Central against a ministry plan to let private firms operate long-distance trains on several routes.

The WRMS protest meet was held outside the office complex of WR's Mumbai divisional railway manager (DRM) and was led by the trade union's general secretary JS Mahurkar.

The protest was supported by other outfits like the Shiv Sena's Sthaniya Lokadhikar Samiti, union functionaries said.

India: Shia community members stage pro-Iran rally in Pune

Pune, Jan 10 (PTI) Members of the Shia community in the city on Friday staged a protest to express solidarity with Iran in its conflict with the US which killed a top military commander of the West Asian country last week.

A delegation of the Shia community also submitted a memorandum to District Collector Naval Kishor Ram, demanding the Indian government's intervention in the US-Iran conflict.

India: Protest held in Mumbai against CAA and JNU violence

Mumbai, Jan 8 (PTI) Hundreds of people, including senior citizens, youths and women, took part in a march in sururban Bandra against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the recent violence at Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) in Delhi.

During the march, the protesters also raised slogans against the government over the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and the National Population Register (NPR).

India: Tailor held for raping woman client in Maha

Palghar, Jan 9 (PTI) A 40-year-old tailor has been arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a woman for more than two years in Maharashtra's Palghar district, police said on Thursday.

Ganesh Dubala, a tailor from Dungipada here, has been charged under sections 376 (rape), 354 (assault to a woman) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code, police PRO Hemant Kumar Katkar said.

India: Fadnavis meets Modi-baiter Raj Thackeray in Mumbai

Mumbai, Jan 7 (PTI) Former Maharashtra chief minister and senior BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis met with MNS chief Raj Thackeray in Prabhadevi area here on Tuesday.

The meeting between the two leaders lasted for nearly two hours, sources said.

However, what transpired during the meeting could not be known immediately.
