Biden campaign says its lawyers standing by if Trump goes to court over vote

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s campaign said on Wednesday it has legal teams standing by if U.S. President Donald Trump follows through with his threat to go to court to try to stop the counting of votes.

“If the president makes good on his threat to go to court to try to prevent the proper tabulation of votes, we have legal teams standing by ready to deploy to resist that effort,” Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon said in a statement.

Democrats falling short in bid for control of U.S. Senate

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A Democratic drive to win control of the U.S. Senate appeared to fall short, with Democrats picking up only one Republican-held seat while six other races remained undecided early on Wednesday.

Democrats defeated Republican Senators Cory Gardner of Colorado and Martha McSally of Arizona but lost the Alabama seat held by Democratic Senator Doug Jones.

With votes still to be counted, Trump falsely claims victory; rival Biden confident

WILMINGTON, Del./WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump falsely claimed victory over Democratic rival Joe Biden on Wednesday with millions of votes still uncounted in a White House race that will not be decided until tallying is completed over the coming hours or days.

By early Wednesday, the race was down to a handful of states, and both Trump, 74 and Biden, 77, had possible paths to reach the needed 270 Electoral College votes to win the White House.

Indian-origin congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi wins US House race

Washington, Nov 4 (PTI) Indian-origin Democratic congressman Raja Krishnamoorthi has been re-elected to the US House of Representatives for the third consecutive term.

Krishnamoorthi, 47, who was born in New Delhi, easily defeated Preston Nelson of the Libertarian Party. When last reports came in, he had accounted for nearly 71 per cent of the total votes counted.

Thousands of U.S. National Guard troops activated to brace for possible election unrest: media

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- More than 4,700 U.S. National Guard troops in 18 states have been activated to assist in the ongoing elections, local media reported Tuesday.

"The missions range from assisting with cyber defense, working the polls, and standing-by in case of post-election civil unrest," reported Military Times, an outlet for news about service members.

Over 850,000 children in U.S. test positive for COVID-19

WASHINGTON, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Over 850,000 children in the United States have been diagnosed with COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, according to a new report of the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association.

A total of 61,447 new child cases were reported last week from Oct. 22 to 29, which is the highest since the pandemic began, according to the report.

Trump projected to take Ohio in presidential race: U.S. media

WASHINGTON, Nov. 4 (Xinhua) -- U.S. President and Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump was projected to have taken Ohio, one of the "battleground states" in the 2020 presidential race with 18 electoral votes, U.S. media reported early Wednesday.

With 94 percent reporting, Trump has won 50.1 percent of the votes, while his Democratic challenger, former U.S. Vice President Joe Biden, has grabbed 48.7 percent, according to Fox News.

NBC News and CNN also called the "Buckeye State" for the Republican.

USA: Biden expresses confidence in winning, urges patience

"We believe we're on track to win this election," Biden told his supporters during a brief speech in Wilmington, Delaware shortly after midnight, adding that "your patience is commendable."

"It's not my place or Donald Trump's place to declare who's won this election," said the Democratic challenger. "That's up to the American people."

American voters pin hope on next president to end pandemic, divisions

NEW YORK, Nov. 3 (Xinhua) -- Braving COVID-19 risks, U.S. voters have been turning out in huge numbers to cast their ballots, making a consequential choice that will decide the direction of the country for the next four years and beyond.

More than 100 million Americans opted for voting early, a record-breaking number equivalent to about 73 percent of the total votes counted in the 2016 election, setting the stage for record participation this year, according to data compiled by the U.S. Elections Project.
