UN Chief calls for building more sustainable and equitable world

ehran, Sept 21, IRNA – United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in his message for the International Day of Peace, 21 September 2020, with a focus on International Day of Peace namely “Shaping Peace Together”, said together, I know we can — and will — build a more just, sustainable and equitable world.

According to the United Nations Information Center (UNIC) in Tehran, UN Secretary-General in his message put emphasis on collective efforts to build a more just, sustainable, and equitable world.

5.3-magnitude quake hits 19 km NE of Emirgazi, Turkey: USGS

NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.3 jolted 19 km northeast of Emirgazi, Turkey at 19:08:07 GMT on Sunday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 38.0014 degrees north latitude and 34.0264 degrees east longitude. 

USA: Murkowski becomes second GOP senator opposing confirmation of new Supreme Court justice before election

WASHINGTON, Sept. 20 (Xinhua) -- U.S. Republican Senator Lisa Murkowski said Sunday she opposed voting on a nominee to replace late Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, making her the second GOP senator to announce that position.

"For weeks, I have stated that I would not support taking up a potential Supreme Court vacancy this close to the election. Sadly, what was then a hypothetical is now our reality, but my position has not changed," Murkowski said in a statement.

Coronavirus pandemic shows the world woefully under-prepared – WHO

UNITED NATIONS, Sep 19 (APP): The World Health Organization (WHO), a Geneva-based UN agency, has said that coronavirus has shown that collectively, the world was woefully under-prepared to combat the pandemic.

Speaking during the virtual media briefing on COVID-19 from Geneva, the Director-General of WHO, Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, however, said with the right political and financial commitment and investment now, the world can prevent and mitigate future pandemics.

US magazine spotlights Pakistan’s response to India’s allegations about LoC ceasefire violations

NEW YORK, Sep 20 (APP): A report in Newsweek, an American weekly magazine, has drawn attention to Pakistan’s rebuttal of the recent Indian allegations about what New Delhi called “unprovoked ceasefire violations” by Pakistani army along the Line of Control sector in the disputed Kashmir region.

Quoting a Pakistani official, the report said that Islamabad, in turn, blamed New Delhi for both the incidents.
