Bush congratulates Biden, Harris; calls election 'fundamentally fair'

Washington, Nov 9 (PTI) Former Republican US president George W Bush has said that the American people can have confidence that the 2020 presidential election was "fundamentally fair, its integrity will be upheld, and its outcome is clear".

Bush, however, also said that outgoing President Donald Trump has the right to request recounts and pursue legal challenges, with any unresolved issues to be properly adjudicated.

US aid agency to grant $20 million to fund Sudan wheat purchases

07 Nov 2020; MEMO: The US Agency for International Development said it will grant $20 million to the World Food Programme to purchase wheat for Sudan to alleviate shortages in the East African country.

The US announced in October that it will rescind Sudan’s 27-year-old listing as a state sponsor of terrorism, a status that had restricted Khartoum’s economic links and cut it off from crucial financial assistance.

From Atlanta and Tallahassee to Bismarck, Boise and Phoenix, crowds ranging in size from a few dozen to a few thousand some of them openly carrying guns decried the news of Joe Biden's victory after more than three suspense-filled days of vote-counting put the Democrat over the top.

Washington, Nov 7 (PTI) Confident of their victory in the US presidential election, Democratic candidate Joe Biden and his running mate Senator Kamala Harris have begun working on the task ahead by focusing on two critical areas of public health and economy, both battered by the raging COVID-19 pandemic.

According to latest projections, Biden had 264 of the 538 electoral college votes up for grabs. He only requires another six electoral college votes to reach the magical number of 270, to be declared elected as the next US president.

Trump administration advances $10 billion defense sale to UAE - source

The informal notification about the ordnance, which was sent to lawmakers late on Thursday, came just after President Donald Trump’s administration informed Congress it planned to sell sophisticated armed aerial drones to the UAE, news first reported by Reuters.

US to sanction leader of Lebanon's Free Patriotic Movement

06 Nov 2020; MEMO: The United States is planning to sanction Gebran Bassil, the leader of Lebanon’s Free Patriotic Movement party, which was founded by President Michel Aoun and is allied with Hezbollah, the Wall Street Journal reported late on Thursday, Reuters reports.

US President Donald Trump’s administration is expected on Friday to impose the sanctions on Bassil for assisting his ally, the Lebanese Shi’ite group Hezbollah, the newspaper reported, citing sources.
