India: 81 doctors 'missing' from duties in Uttarakhand, CM allows sacking

Dehradun, Sept 30 (PTI) Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat on Wednesday cleared a proposal for sacking 81 doctors who have been absent from their duties unauthorisedly.

All these doctors are of the state's medical health services cadre, an official release here said.

The recommendation for the terminating services of these doctors from the date of their absence from duty has been forwarded to the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission on the direction of Chief Minister Trivendra Singh Rawat, it said.

India: VP Naidu tests positive for COVID-19

New Delhi, Sep 29 (PTI) Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu on Tuesday tested positive for COVID-19 but is in good health, the Vice President Secretariat said.

Naidu, 71, who is asymptomatic, has been advised home quarantine.

In the evening, Naidu had addressed a virtual event on post-COVID healthcare where he urged the private sector to pitch in to improve healthcare system in rural India.

India: Distt admin providing ample oxygen cylinders to covid hospitals

Kanpur: The district administration is serious to provide ample quantity of oxygen cylinders to the covid hospitals.

With the increase in the number of oxygen cylinders, a proposal to purchase as many as 300 cylinders has been prepared on the directives of the district magistrate Alok Tiwari.

Meanwhile, Dr Dinesh Sachan, CMS, Kanshiram Hospital, said: The DM has issued a directive to purchase as many as 320 oxygen cylinders in view of the rising requirement. He has extended budget to buy the cylinders from the Covid Fund. It would take one month in delivery.

Kuwait imports more than 6.6bn cigarettes per year

29 Sep 2020; MEMO: The cigarette market in Kuwait has significantly increased over the past few years with more than 6.6 billion consumed annually, London based Global Data consulting firm said.

The company said the tobacco market in Kuwait grew 298.3 per cent in 2017 compared to the early 1990s.

In 2017, the average annual consumption of cigarettes in Kuwait was 2,315, with an average of six cigarettes per day.

India: 351 servitors and 53 employees of Jagannath Temple test corona positive

Puri, Sep 29 (PTI) At least 351 servitors and 53 employees of Shree Jagannath Temple here have tested positive for COVID-19, an official said.

A total of 404 persons engaged in the 12th century shrine have tested positive for the virus since August, said Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) administrator Ajay Jena said on Tuesday.

Thiruvananthapuram, Sep 24 (PTI) Kerala bagged a United Nations award on Thursday for its "outstanding contribution" towards the non-communicable diseases-related sustainable development goals.

The UN Interagency Task Force (UNIATF) award this year on prevention and control of non-communicable diseases was announced by World Health Organization director-general Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.

India: COVID-19 cases in India breach 5.7 million mark

New Delhi, Sep 24 (PTI) India's COVID-19 caseload raced past 57 lakh, while over 46 lakh people have recovered from the disease pushing the national recovery rate to 81.55 per cent, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated on Thursday.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 57,32,518 with 86,508 people testing positive in a day while the death toll climbed to 91,149 with 1,129 people succumbing to the disease in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The total recoveries surged to 46,74,987 in the country so far.

India: I never wear a face mask: MP home minister

Indore, Sep 23 (PTI) Amid rising COVID-19 cases in Madhya Pradesh, state home minister and BJP leader Narottam Mishra on Wednesday caused a flutter saying he doesn't wear a face mask in any programme.

However, as the Congress attacked him, the minister later tempered his remarks, saying he cannot continue to wear a face mask for a long time due to a medical condition.

"I don't wear a mask in any programmes. 'Isme kya hota hai?' (so what)," the home minister told reporters when they asked him why he was not wearing a mask at a function here.

India: Union MoS Railways BJP MP Suresh Angadi dies of coronavirus

New Delhi, Sep 23 (PTI) Minister of State for Railways and Karnataka BJP MP Suresh Angadi passed away on Wednesday, days after he tested positive for COVID-19.

The 65-year-old passed away at around 8 pm at the AIIMS trauma centre which has been converted into a dedicated COVID-19 facility, sources at the hospital said.
