India: Guardians reluctant to send their wards to school due to Corona

Kanpur:  Guardians are in a hodgepodge as to send their wards to school opening in days to come. They seem to be in double mind. Fear and anxiety distress them badly. Although the school authorities are extending a guarantee of social distancing, sanitizer and temperature check, yet the fearing parents dangle between to be or not to be. They do not find themselves in making a final decision. 

India: Bihar minister Kapil Deo Kamat dies of COVID-19

Patna, Oct 16 (PTI) Bihar's Panchayati Raj minister Kapil Deo Kamat succumbed to COVID-19 early on Friday at AIIMS, Patna, family sources said. He was 70.

Kamat is survived by two sons and four daughters. His wife died a few months ago.

"Kapil Deo Kamat died of COVID-19 at 1:50 am (Friday) here at AIIMS, Patna. He was suffering from kidney failure and had been on ventilator over the past few days," Dr Sanjeev Kumar, the COVID-19 nodal officer of AIIMS-Patna, told PTI.

Nearly 700,000 Children In U.S. Test Positive For COVID-19

WASHINGTON, Oct 15 (NNN-AGENCIES) – Nearly 700,000 children in the United States have been diagnosed with COVID-19, since the onset of the pandemic, according to a report of the American Academy of Paediatrics and the Children’s Hospital Association.

A total of 77,073 new child cases were reported from Sept 24 to Oct 8, which was a 13 percent increase in child cases over two weeks.

Altogether 697,633 child COVID-19 cases had been reported so far, and children represented 10.7 percent of all those infected, said the report.

India: Himachal Pradesh speaker tests positive for coronavirus

Shimla, Oct 14 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar tested positive for coronavirus on Wednesday.

In a Facebook post, Parmar said he had developed coronavirus symptoms two days ago.

"I have isolated myself at my official residence on doctors' advice," he added.

So far, 13 legislators, including the speaker and CM Jai Ram Thakur, have contracted the virus.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

India: Mulayam tests COVID positive, hospitalised

Lucknow, Oct 14 (PTI) Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the party said on Wednesday.

The 80-year-old leader is admitted to the Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.

"Samajwadi Party founder Mulayam Singh Yadav has tested positive for COVID-19 and is being monitored by doctors. As of now, there are no COVID symptoms in him," it tweeted.

UK unveils 3-level lockdown plan; Liverpool at highest risk

London, Oct 13 (AP/PTI) The British government carved England into three tiers of coronavirus risk on Monday in a bid to slow a resurgent outbreak, putting the northern city of Liverpool into the highest-risk category and shutting its pubs, gyms and betting shops.

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the three-level national system was designed to simplify and standardize a confusing patchwork of local rules, as the country enters a crucial phase.

India: Bihar minister dies of post-COVID complications

Patna, Oct 12 (PTI) Bihar minister for backward and extremely backward class welfare Vinod Kumar Singh died on Monday at a hospital in Delhi due to post-COVID 19 complications, family sources said. He was 55.

He is survived by wife Nisha and two daughters.

Singh, a BJP MLA from Pranpur constituency in Katihar district, had tested positive for COVID-19 on June 28 and subsequently recovered.

Shortly after, however, he suffered a brain haemorrhage and had to be airlifted to a private hospital in Delhi, where he breathed his last.

India: Nagaland minister C M Chang dies of COVID-19

Kohima, Oct 12 (PTI) Senior Nagaland minister C M Chang died of COVID-19 here on Monday, health officials said.

He was 77 and is survived by his wife, four sons, five daughters and grandchildren.

Chang was being treated for COVID-19 at a hospital in Kohima, they said.

He is the first MLA in the state, which has reported 7,240 COVID-19 cases so far, to succumb to the infection.

The Nagaland government has declared state mourning on October 13 and 14, officials said.

India: Himachal Pradesh CM tests positive for COVID-19

Shimla, Oct 12 (PTI) Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur on Monday said he has tested positive for COVID-19.

Thakur, in a tweet, said he had quarantined himself at his residence last week after coming in contact with someone who had coronavirus.

On doctor's advice, I have isolated myself at my official residence, he added.

Apart from Thakur, his Karnataka counterpart B S Yediyurappa and Haryana CM M L Khattar have tested positive earlier since the pandemic began.
