India: New record of 97,570 COVID-19 infections in a day

New Delhi, Sep 12 (PTI) India's COVID-19 caseload raced past 46 lakh with a record 97,570 infections being reported in a day, while 36,24,196 people have recuperated so far taking the national recovery rate to 77.77 per cent on Saturday, according to Union health ministry data.

The total number of coronavirus cases has mounted to 46,59,984, while the death toll climbed to 77,472 with 1,201 people succumbing to the infection in a span of 24 hours, the data updated at 8 am showed.

Delhi govt directs mohalla clinics to begin COVID tests

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) Mohalla clinics in the city have been instructed to start COVID-19 testing with immediate effect as part of the Delhi government's strategy to ramp up testing amid a surge in coronavirus cases here.

According to an order issued on September 10 by Dr Shalley Kamra, state nodal officer of the Aam Aadmi Mohalla Clinic (AAMC), tests will happen on all working days between 2 pm and 5 pm.

There are nearly 450 mohalla clinics in the national capital.

India: Patients can not be turned away from hospitals: Bombay HC

Nagpur, Sep 10 (PTI) Taking suo moto (on its own) notice of problems faced by patients at hospitals in the district amid the coronavirus pandemic, the Nagpur bench of the Bombay High Court on Thursday said an ailing person can not be turned away from hospitals because of shortage of beds or staff.

A division bench of Justices Ravi Deshpande and Pushpa Ganediwala said the main issue which required the court's attention is making ventilators and beds available to patients so as to reduce the death rate.

India: UP minister tests positive for COVID-19

Lucknow Sep 11 (PTI) Uttar Pradesh Minister of State for Jails, Jai Kumar Singh Jaiki, said on Friday that he has tested positive for COVID-19.

The minister is in home isolation.

"After detecting primary symptoms of corona, I had got my test done on September 9 which has come positive. As per medical advice, I have isolated myself at home," he said in a tweet.

In another tweet, he requested all those who had come in contact with him in the past one week to isolate themselves and get tested.

New Delhi, Sep 11 (PTI) India's COVID-19 caseload sprinted past 45 lakh and the death toll climbed to 76,271 with a record 96,551 infections and 1,209 fatalities being reported in a day, while the recoveries crossed 35 lakh on Friday, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The total coronavirus cases mounted to 45,62,414, while the recoveries surged to 35,42,663, the data updated at 8 am showed.

The COVID-19 case fatality rate has further dropped to 1.67 per cent while the recovery rate was recorded at 77.65 per cent.

India: Guj BJP chief tests coronavirus positive

Ahmedabad, Sep 9 (PTI) Gujarat BJP chief C R Paatil has tested coronavirus positive, a hospital in Gandhinagar where he is undergoing treatment said on Wednesday.

"Paatil is currently admitted to Apollo Hospitals and is undergoing treatment for COVID-19. He is currently stable and being taken care of by multidisciplinary team of specialists," the hospital said in a statement.

Morocco closes Casablanca to contain coronavirus

09 Sep 2020; MEMO: The Moroccan government closed Casablanca yesterday as part of its measures to contain the spread of Covid-19, the official Moroccan News Agency has reported.

“All labour ports of Casablanca will be closed and movement to and from the city will be subject to an exceptional travel permit issued by the local authorities,” said the government on Sunday evening.

UK PM plans law banning large gatherings as COVID-19 cases rise

London, Sep 9 (PTI) UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson is planning tougher new restrictions on social gatherings of more than six people in England starting next Monday, following a significant rise in the coronavirus cases.

A law change to be introduced will ban larger groups of friends and family meeting anywhere socially indoors or outdoors, to be enforced through a 100 pounds fine if people fail to comply and doubling on each offence up to a maximum of 3,200 pounds.

India: Actor Malaika Arora tests COVID-19 positive

Mumbai, Sep 7 (PTI) Actor-host Malaika Arora on Tuesday announced that she has tested positive for COVID-19 and is quarantining at her home.

The Bollywood diva said she is asymptomatic and following all the required protocols.

Today I have tested positive for coronavirus but I want to inform you all that I am feeling fine, Malaika wrote in a statement posted on Instagram.
