Death toll in Iran from coronavirus reaches 194

08 Mar 2020; MEMO: The death toll from the coronavirus outbreak in Iran rose to 194 on Sunday, the country’s Health Ministry has announced.

Authorities said 49 people died in the last 24 hours, while 743 new cases were found, pushing up the total number of confirmed cases to 6,566, spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour told a news conference in the capital Tehran.

At least 22,177 people are currently under medical care, while the number of discharged patients stands at 55,404, he said.

French parliament records third coronavirus case as death toll mounts in France

PARIS, March 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A French lawmaker has been hospitalised after contracting coronavirus, the National Assembly announced Saturday, bringing the number of proven cases in the lower house of parliament to three.

The death toll in France mounted to 11 people with 716 confirmed cases nationwide.

The National Assembly did not name the legislator who recently caught the disease, but said the third case was a female parliamentarian.

Authorities In India’s Kerala Sound Alert, As Bird-Flu Hits Poultry Farms

NEW DELHI, Mar 8 (NNN-PTI) – Authorities in the southern Indian state of Kerala, on Saturday, sounded an alert, after it was found that bird-flu has hit poultry farms in one of the districts.

The bird flu virus was confirmed in poultry farms in Kozhikode district, about 400 km north of Thiruvananthapuram, capital of Kerala.

“The influenza was found to have spread in a farm at Vengara and Kodiyathur,” an official at Kozhikode collectorate said. “Several birds have died in the farms but the flu has not so far affected humans.”

UN asks 9 countries to delay peacekeeper rotations due to coronavirus

UNITED NATIONS, March 8 (NNN-AGENCIES) — The United Nations asked nine countries, including China, South Korea and France, to delay by three months the rotations of their UN peacekeeping forces due to the coronavirus outbreak.

The request was made to the countries “to maintain operational strength and execute their mandated tasks”, diplomatic sources at the UN said.

The nine countries also include Cambodia, Thailand, Nepal, India, Italy and Germany – all of which have experienced significant outbreaks of the COVID-19 virus.

Egyptair Suspends Flights To Kuwait Over COVID-19 Concerns

CAIRO, Mar 8 (NNN-MENA) – EgyptAir, the flag carrier of Egypt, announced, it will suspend flights to Kuwait until further notice.

In a statement, EgyptAir said that, the decision came after Kuwait decided to suspend all flights with seven countries, including Egypt, for one week, as part of the precautions against the spread of the COVID-19.

EgyptAir also requested its customers, who wish to review and change their reservations to visit the company’s offices, or arrange the issue with their tourism agents or through EgypAir’s website.

India: UP Guv cancels annual Holi Milan programme due to corona

Lucknow, Mar 7 (PTI) In view of coronavirus, Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel has cancelled the March 9 'Holi Milan' programme as a preventive measure, the Raj Bhawan said on Saturday.

Earlier, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had decided to stay away from 'Holi Milan' programmes and had appealed to people to refrain from attending social functions in view of coronavirus.

Indian among 15 new coronavirus cases in UAE

Dubai, Mar 7 (PTI) An Indian national is among 15 new cases of the deadly coronavirus in the UAE, taking the total number of confirmed infections in the country to 45, health officials have said.

The Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) on Friday said in a statement that 13 out of 15 new cases in the UAE recently arrived from abroad.

India: 41 people put under home isolation in Mizoram

Aizawl, Mar 6 (PTI) At least 41 people, who recently returned from foreign countries, have been put under home isolation in Mizoram, as a precautionary measure, and 14,868 persons have been screened for coronavirus, a senior official said on Friday.

State Health secretary H Lalengmawia told PTI that 41 people who have recently returned from China, Singapore, Macau, Dubai, USA, Seychelles and Hongkong are being put under home isolation though they did not show any symptoms of novel coronavirus.

EU to enhance coordination in battling COVID-19

BRUSSELS, March 7 (NNN-Xinhua) — Health ministers of the European Union (EU) member states called for strengthened solidarity, cooperation and exchange of information in tackling the spread of the disease.

The ministers agreed on further raising public awareness about the threat posed by COVID-19, developing a coordinated approach to prevention and protection of people at risk, and establishing coherent containment measures, including evidence-based advice concerning travel to and from risk areas.

US tourist is Costa Rica’s first coronavirus case and first in Central America

SAN JOSE, March 7 (NNN-AGENCIES) — A US woman on a tourist trip to Costa Rica has tested positive for the coronavirus, the first confirmed case in Central America, the country’s health minister said Friday.

The 49-year-old woman had contracted the virus before entering the country on March 1, Health Minister Daniel Salas said.

The woman is currently “in strict isolation” in a hotel in the capital San Jose with her husband — who Salas said had contact with people in New York who had tested positive for the virus.
