India: Ayodhya judgment flawed, but we need to move on: Sinha

Mumbai, Nov 17 (PTI) Former BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Sunday criticised the Supreme Court's judgment in the Ayodhya issue, but said the Muslim community should accept it.

Sinha was speaking at the Mumbai Lit Fest here.

Asked about his views about the historical verdict, he said, "The SC judgment is a faulty judgment, it is full of flaws, but I will still ask the Muslim community to accept the judgment and put the whole thing behind us.

India: Truck driver robbed, killed in UP's Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 18 (PTI) Unidentified persons robbed a truck driver of Rs 1 lakh and strangled him to death in Khatoli town here, police said on Monday.

The body of Javed was found on Sunday with a belt wrapped around the neck, they said.

He had come to Muzaffarnagar where he sold tomatoes and was on the way to Amroha when the incident took place in Khatoli, police said.

A case was registered in this connection and efforts are on to identify and nab the accused, they said.

India: Justice Bobde takes oath as 47th CJI

New Delhi, Nov 18 (PTI) Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde, who was part of the historic Ayodhya verdict earlier this month, was on Monday administered oath as the 47th Chief Justice of India by President Ram Nath Kovind and started holding court at 11:30 am.

Bobde, 63, succeeds Justice Ranjan Gogoi who demitted office on Sunday.

India: Winter Session starts on stormy note; Opposition uproar in LS

New Delhi, Nov 18 (PTI) The Winter Session of Lok Sabha on Monday began on a stormy note, with protests by the Congress and other Opposition members over various issues.

Soon after oath-taking of four members and paying condolences to members of Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha who died in recent months, Opposition members sought to raise various issues.

Within minutes of commencement of the Question Hour, around 30 members from the Congress trooped into the Well, shouting slogans and demanding that the government stop attacking the Opposition as well as foisting false cases.

India: Metro work starts but hinders traffic movement

Kanpur: With the laying of the foundation stone of the metro by the state chief minister Yogi Adityanath here on November 15, the construction of pillar for the metro track has begun from IIT gate. The iron mesh to cover the pillar is also in progress. 

For managing the traffic rush on the road in front of IIT the metro company has employed its men to regulate the crowd. The SP (Traffic) Sushil Kumar told that vehicles parked on the road would be removed if required so adding that the policemen would also be posted in case of the demand occurs. 

India: TV actress accuses junior artist of raping her

Chandigarh, Nov 16 (PTI) An FIR has been lodged against a junior artist for allegedly raping a TV actress after making a false promise of marrying her, the Yamunanagar police said on Saturday.

The accused, identified as Vineet Verma (24), is absconding and raids are being conducted to nab him, said Seema Devi, SHO, women's police station, Yamunanagar.

India: Sharad Yadav to campaign for opposition alliance in Jharkhand

Ranchi, Nov 16 (PTI) Former MP Sharad Yadav on Saturday said he will campaign for the opposition alliance in the coming Jharkhand assembly elections.

Yadav who met jailed RJD supremo Lalu Prasad at the Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences here, said, "I will come on November 22 or 23 to campaign for the opposition alliance candidates."

India: Sabarimala temple opens, 10 women sent back by police

Sabarimala, Nov 16 (PTI) Amid tight security, thousands of devotees offered prayers at the Lord Ayyappa temple when it opened for the annual Mandala-Makaravilakku puja on Saturday, though police said 10 women were sent back from Pamba base as they were in the "barred" age group.

The temple has reopened just days after a five-judge bench of the Supreme Court referred to a larger bench the matter related to entry of women into the hill temple and other issues related to various faiths.

India: Taxi driver held for rape of mentally challenged woman

Kolkata, November 17 (PTI) A taxi driver has been arrested on the city's southern outskirts in connection with the alleged abduction and rape of a shelter home inmate, a senior police officer said on Sunday.

The accused was nabbed from Narendrapur in South 24 Parganas district during a raid on Saturday night, he said.
