India: NRC erroneous as its responsibility was on 'incompetent' junior officer

Guwahati, Nov 14 (PTI) Veteran Congress leader Tarun Gogoi on Thursday alleged that final NRC is an "erroneous" document as the full responsibility of the exercise was entrusted upon state coordinator Prateek Hajela who was "a junior and incompetent officer".

The updated final NRC, which validates bonafide Indian citizens of Assam, has left out over 19 lakh applicants. It was published on August 31 under Hajela, who was appointed the NRC state coordinator by the Supreme Court.

India: Mamata refrains from reacting on Ayodhya verdict

Kolkata, Nov 15 (PTI) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee refrained from reacting on Ayodhya verdict on Thursday, six days since it was passed by the Supreme Court, saying she is too busy with the relief work after Cyclone Bulbul.

The Ayodhya verdict was passed by the apex court on November 9 and not a single leader of the ruling TMC in West Bengal, including Banerjee, who is party supremo, has come out with a reaction on it.

India: LG says poll process in J&K to begin 'soon'

Jammu, Nov 14 (PTI) Hinting at holding Assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir in the near future, Lieutenant Governor (LG) Girish Chandra Murmu on Thursday said the election process will begin soon.

"Election will come. It is a Union territory with a legislature, it will not continue like this (LG's rule)," he said, while addressing a function of the police department.

"The process for holding the election will come soon," Murmu said, speaking at the Attestation-cum-Passing out Parade of the 14th batch of Constables, held in the Talwara area of Reasi district.

India: BJP should accept Sabarimala like they accepted Ayodhya ruling

Bhopal, Nov 14 (PTI) Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh said on Thursday that the RSS and the BJP should accept the Supreme Court's decision in the Sabarimala temple case just as they did in the Ayodhya matter.

He was reacting to the apex court's decision to refer the Sabarimala and similar religious issues to a larger bench.

India: Teenage girl gangraped in UP village

Mau (UP), Nov 14 (PTI) A teenage girl was allegedly raped by three men in a village in the Ghosi area here, police said on Thursday.

The incident took place on November 8, they said, adding that the 17-year-old girl had gone to her field when the three men of the same village allegedly raped her.

The family members of the girl alleged that they had approached the police with a complaint on the day of the incident itself, but the latter did not register an FIR.

Chinese man held with sat phone at Delhi airport

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) A Chinese passenger was apprehended by CISF personnel at the Delhi airport on Thursday for allegedly carrying a satellite phone in his baggage, officials said.

Chang Wen Tang was intercepted at the Terminal-II of the Indira Gandhi International Airport before he could board a flight to Raipur, they said.

The satellite phone of Thuraya brand was kept in the hand baggage of the Chinese passenger, they said.

India: Union Minister praises Left government in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 14 (PTI) Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday heaped praise on the LDF government in Kerala and said it is a model for other BJP, non-BJP-ruled states on implementation of Central projects.

He thanked the state government for the successful implementation of the Gas Authority of India Ltd (GAIL) pipeline project.

The Union minister of petroleum, natural gas and steel was speaking to the media after he met chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan at his office here.

India: Permission required to sell, purchase, fly drones in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad (UP), Nov 14 (PTI) The Ghaziabad administration on Thursday issued orders making it mandatory to obtain its permission for buying, selling or flying drones, a senior official said.

The buyers and sellers of drones have also been instructed to get their Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV) registered, Additional District Magistrate (city) Shailendra Kumar said.

Permission must be obtained from the M's office before buying or selling drones or using unregistered ones, he said.

New Delhi, Nov 14 (PTI) Political parties and Hindu outfits in Kerala have given mixed reaction to the Supreme Court on Thursday deciding to set up a larger bench to reexamine religious issues including those arising out of its 2018 verdict that lifted a centuries-old ban on women of menstruating age visiting the Sabarimala Ayyappa temple.

Delhi air quality 'severe' for 4th consecutive day

New Delhi, Nov 15 (PTI) A thick layer of toxic smog engulfed Delhi as the pollution level continued to remain in the 'severe' category for the fourth consecutive day on Friday.

The high pollution can be attributed to low wind speed, which has led to stagnation of pollutants in the air and slowed down the dispersion process, authorities said.
