Heavy rains, floods kill at least 3, destroy scores of houses in N. Afghanistan

FAIZABAD, Afghanistan, June 9 (Xinhua) -- At least three persons have been killed and scores of houses have been washed away due to downpour and floods in Afghanistan's northern Badakhshan province over the past 24 hours, the provincial head of Natural Disaster Management Authority said Sunday.

According to Sayed Abdullah Hamayon Dehqanzada, the heavy shower and floods hit parts of Kasham, Argo, Shahr-e-Bazarg and Tishkan districts and preliminary reports have confirmed the death of three persons.

India: TV channel head, editor arrested for defamation against UP CM

Noida (UP), Jun 8 (PTI) The head of a private television news channel and its editor were arrested here Saturday for allegedly broadcasting defamatory content against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, police said.

During a debate on the channel on June 6, a woman had allegedly made defamatory statements against Adityanath, the police said.

India to help train 1,000 civil servants of Maldives

New Delhi, Jun 9 (PTI) The National Centre for Good Governance (NCGG), India's leading civil services training institution, has entered into an agreement with the Maldives Civil Services Commission for capacity building of 1,000 civil servants from the Maldives over the next five years, an official statement issued on Sunday said.

The agreement was signed during Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Male, the capital of the Maldives, on Saturday.

Delhi doctor detained in Kanpur kidney racket case

Lucknow, Jun 8 (PTI) A doctor of a private hospital in Delhi has been detained by the Kanpur police in connection with its probe into a kidney racket, which was busted in February, an official said Saturday.

"Dr Dipak Shukla was detained in Delhi on Friday night and has been brought to Kanpur for investigation," Superintendent of Police (Crime), Kanpur, Rajesh Yadav, told PTI over phone.

Shukla is the CEO of a private hospital in Delhi and was detained by a Special Investigation Team, he said, without elaborating on details of the probe.

India: Maha teen accuses man of rape, confinement, assault

Palghar, Jun 8 (PTI) A teenage girl in Maharashtra's Palghar district has registered a police complaint claiming a distant relative confined her for several days and raped her repeatedly, an official said Saturday.

Palghar police spokesperson Hemant Katkar said the girl (18), a Class IX student, approached the police on Friday night following which a case was registered against the man, identified as Navnath Savar, under relevant sections of the IPC for rape, wrongful confinement, criminal intimidation and voluntarily causing hurt.

India: War veteran released from detention centre in Assam

Guwahati, Jun 8 (PTI) Kargil war veteran Md Sanaullah, who was last month declared a 'foreigner' by a tribunal in Assam, walked out of A detention centre on Saturday, a day after the Gauhati High Court granted him bail.

Shortly after his release, Sanaullah was taken to the office of the Kamrup Superintendent of Police at Amingaon to complete formalities, as per the directions of the court, a senior official said.

India: Minor girl raped, killed in Bhopal

Bhopal, Jun 9 (PTI) The body of an eight-year-old girl, who was allegedly raped, was found near a drain here in Madhya Pradesh on Sunday, a police official said.

Preliminary investigation revealed that she died of strangulation after being raped, he said.

The girl had ventured out of her house in Kamla Nagar area of the state capital around 8 pm on Saturday to buy something. When she did not return, her family members approached the police, the official said.
