India: One pilot killed, 2 eject as two Suryakiran aircraft crash

Bengaluru, Feb 19; PTI: A pilot was killed and two others ejected to safety when two aircraft of IAF's aerobatic team Surya Kiran crashed near the Yelahanka airbase here Tuesday, a day before the opening of the Aero India show, a top police official said.

The mishap occurred during a sortie as part of the rehersal for the five-day Asia's premier Air show here.

"There were three pilots, one has died, two are safe with injuries," DGP Fire Services M N Reddi who rushed to the spot told PTI.

India: Kolkata Police chief Rajeev Kumar transferred to CID

Kolkata, February 19; GANASHAKTI: Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who has been in news after CM Mamata Banerjee held dharna in his support against the CBI inquiry, has been posted as ADG and IGP of CID.

Anuj Sharma will be succeeding him as the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata and Rajeev Kumar has been transferred to CID. Kumar, who had helmed the post in May 2016 for a tenure of 3 years was likely to hand over the charge of the Police Commissioner to his successor.

Sikh cyclist's disqualification over helmet not discrimination: Indian SC

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) A turbaned Sikh, barred from participating in a sporting event without a helmet or protective gear, cannot claim discrimination or interference with his religious rights, the Supreme Court said on Tuesday.

The top court refused to interfere with the alleged disqualification of a Delhi-based 50-year-old Sikh cycling enthusiast from a long-distance cycling event for refusing to wear a helmet.

Pakistanis in Bikaner asked to leave within 48 hours

Bikaner (Raj), Feb 19 (PTI) Pakistani citizens in Rajasthan's Bikaner have been asked to leave within 48 hours, district officials said, citing law and order situation in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack.

Bikaner Collector Kumar Pal Gautam issued the order on Monday directing the Pakistani citizens to leave the district as it may create law and order problem in the wake of the attack by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

India: Two mowed down by BJP MLA's car in Karnataka

Bengaluru, Feb 19 (PTI) Two people were mowed down and three others injured by a car in which senior state BJP leader and MLA C T Ravi was travelling near Kunigal in Tumakuru district early Tuesday, police said.

The victims, who had come in two vehicles, were standing by the roadside when the accident occurred, according to the first information report.

Saudi man held at Delhi airport for smuggling gold

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) A Saudi man has been arrested by customs officials at the Delhi airport for allegedly trying to smuggle into India gold worth about Rs 53 lakh, according to an official statement issued Tuesday.

The accused was intercepted after his arrival from Dammam in Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

Man arrested for raising anti-India slogans in Jharkhand

Jamshedpur, Feb 19 (PTI) A 22-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raising anti-India slogans on old Purulia road here in East Singhbhum district, a police officer said Tuesday.

The incident happened under the jurisdiction of Azadnagar police station on Sunday, the police officer said, adding, the accused, identified as Anas Razi, is a resident of Zakirnagar.
