India: 1,190 Naxal terrorists killed since 2010

Noida (UP), Feb 19 (PTI) As many as 1,190 Left Wing Extremists, also called Naxals, have been killed by security forces in the country since 2010, an RTI response has revealed.

There have been 11,567 incidents involving Naxals during the period in which 1,331 security personnel suffered injuries, the Left Wing Extremism (LWE) Division, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, stated in the reply.

India rejects Imran Khan's response to Pulwama attack

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) India Tuesday strongly rejected Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's response to its allegations of Islamabad's involvement in the Pulwama attack, saying disclaiming its link with terrorist attacks is an oft-repeated excuse by the neighbouring country.

In a hard-hitting statement, the Ministry of External Affairs said India was not surprised that Khan refused to acknowledge the attack on India's security forces in Pulwama as an act of terrorism.

25 Lankan fishermen held for fishing in Indian waters

Chennai, Feb 19 (PTI) Twentyfive Sri Lankan fishermen have been arrested and five Lankan fishing boats seized for allegedly fishing illegally in Indian waters about 90 km off Nagapattinam in Tamil Nadu, the Coast Guard said Tuesday.

The CG was maintaining strict vigil following the recent Pulwama terror attack in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed.

Indian SC rejects Foreigner Tribunal on Sirajul Hoque's citizenship

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) The Supreme Court has set aside an order declaring a man as foreigner whose Indian citizenship was denied on the ground of discrepancy in the name of his grandfather.

A bench of Justices Rohinton Fali Nariman and Vineet Saran noted that character 'F' was replaced with 'M' in his grandfather's name in some of the documents.

India: Talk of growth without any jobs: Rahul

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) There is talk of growth without any jobs and the government is "funding big guys" when it is the small and medium business people that can create employment, Congress president Rahul Gandhi said Tuesday.

Gandhi, during an interaction with small and medium business people as part of his outreach initiative 'Apni baat Rahul ke saath', also said the small and medium businesses were producing jobs, but not getting the funding they needed.

Indian Cabinet nod to ordinance on Triple Talaq: Jaitley

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) The Union Cabinet Tuesday gave its nod to re-issue the contentious Triple Talaq ordinance that makes the practice of instant triple talaq by Muslim men a penal offence.

The Cabinet has given its nod to the Triple Talaq ordinance, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley told reporters in the Cabinet briefing, noting that it is among those ordinances and bills which had been passed by the Lok Sabha but could not be taken up in the Rajya Sabha due to continuous protests by opposition parties.

India: Gujarat BJP leader's website hacked

Ahmedabad, Feb 19 (PTI) A personal website of Gujarat BJP vice-president I K Jadeja was hacked Tuesday and "Pakistan Zindabad" was written on it, he said.

"Someone hacked my personal website www.ikjadeja.in and posted `Pakistan Zindabad' it its Blog section. I have taken steps to delete that," the former state minister told reporters.

A screenshot of the hacked page was doing rounds on social media.

India: More than 100 people booked for blocking NH-9

Ghaziabad (UP), Feb 19 (PTI) More than 100 people blocked National Highway-9 here, following which a police case was registered against them on Tuesday, officials said.

SP (city) Shlok Kumar said a candlelight march was carried out on Monday night remembering the killed soldiers in the recent Pulwama terror attack.

After the march, those who participated in it blocked the highway due to which traffic near Khoda and Indira Puram was affected for two hours.

India: Rahul appoints 6 AICC secretaries for UP

New Delhi, Feb 19 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Tuesday appointed six AICC secretaries for Uttar Pradesh --three each attached to Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Jyotiraditya Scindia.

Priyanka Gandhi and Jyotiraditya Scindia were appointed AICC general secretary in-charge of UP east and UP west respectively in January and took charge earlier this month.

India: Tri-nation peace rally reaches Agartala

Agartala, Feb 20 (PTI) A cross-border motor rally to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi has arrived here from Dhaka via the Akhaura International Checkpost (ICP).

The tri-nation rally, which commenced from Rajghat in Delhi on February 4, will culminate at Yangon in Myanmar on February 24, covering 7,250km, an official release said.
