Jordan: ex-minister calls on Palestinians not to use Israeli airport

24 August 2022; MEMO: A former minister of information in Jordan has criticised Palestinians for flying abroad from Israel's Ramon Airport, Quds Press has reported. Samih Maayteh made his comment following the first such flight with passengers from the occupied West Bank heading to Cyprus.

Qatar, Gulf States to assist Pakistan with $4bn

24 August 2022; MEMO: Gulf Arab States are set to provide Pakistan with a total of around $4 billion to help alleviate its severe financial crisis.

According to the news outlet, Bloomberg, the State Bank of Pakistan's acting Governor, Murtaza Syed, said in a briefing that Qatar will provide $2 billion in bilateral assistance to the South Asian country.

Israel spyware company NSO seeks buyer as CEO resigns

22 August 2022; MEMO: The CEO of the Israeli spyware firm NSO Group and one of its founders, Shalev Hulio, has resigned from his position and will be responsible for searching for a buyer for the company. NSO also informed 100 employees that they would be dismissed. The company's COO Yaron Shohat will take over from Hulio until a successor is named, according to Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper.

UAE investments in Egypt increase 170% in 6 months

22 August 2022; MEMO: Data from the Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics in Egypt revealed yesterday that the value of Emirati investments in Egypt increased to $1.9 billion during the first half of the 2021-2022 fiscal year, compared to $712.6 million during the same period last year, a rise of 169.1 per cent.

US says working as quickly as possible on response to Iran over nuclear proposal

The United States, on Monday, pushed back against Iranian accusations of delaying the indirect talks aimed at reinstating the 2015 nuclear deal, saying it was working as quickly as it can to put together an appropriate response to Tehran's comments on a draft text put forward by the European Union, Reuters reports.

Lebanon denies demarcation deal for maritime border with Israel

22 August 2022; MEMO: Lebanon denied on Monday that it has reached an agreement on the demarcation of its maritime border with Israel, Anadolu has reported.

The denial followed a report by Israel's Channel 12 TV on Sunday which claimed that the two countries were close to agreeing a demarcation deal.

Turkiye shocks markets with rate cut amid 80% inflation

19 August 2022; MEMO: Turkiye's Central Bank shocked markets, Thursday, with a cut to its benchmark policy rate, despite inflation in the country sitting near 80 per cent, Financial Times reports.

According to the report, the Turkish Central Bank's statement, Thursday, said that the committee expects the "disinflation process to start" and that there are signals of a "loss of momentum in economic activity."

South Korea, Qatar sign visa exemption agreement

17 August 2022; MEMO: South Korea and Qatar announced, on Wednesday, that their citizens will no longer require visas to visit each other's country, local media said, Anadolu News Agency reports.

The announcement was made during a meeting between South Korean Foreign Minister, Park Jin, and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani in Seoul, where both top diplomats signed the visa waiver agreement, Yonhap News Agency reported.

German company contracted to manage, operate high-speed electric train in Egypt

18 August 2022; MEMO: Egyptian Transport Minister Kamel El-Wazir yesterday witnessed the signing of a preliminary agreement for the management and operation of the three lines of the high-speed electric train network.

The agreement was signed between the National Authority for Tunnels in Egypt, the Egyptian private-sector company Elsewedy Electric, and the German railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB).

EU, US say they are studying Iran's response to nuclear proposal

17 August 2022; MEMO: The European Union and United States said, on Tuesday, they were studying Iran's response to what the EU has called its "final" proposal to save a 2015 nuclear deal after Tehran called on Washington to show flexibility, Reuters reports.

A US State Department spokesperson said the United States was sharing its views on Iran's response with the European Union after receiving Tehran's comments from the bloc.
