India: Beware of pickpockets: Rahul on rising fuel prices

New Delhi, Nov 1 (PTI) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hit out at the Centre on Monday over the rise in fuel prices and said one should beware of "pickpockets".

"Beware of pickpockets," he said in a tweet in Hindi, using the hashtag "#TaxExtortion".

The former Congress chief cited a news report along with his tweet that said the petrol prices in some states have crossed Rs 120 a litre and that the Centre collected Rs 2.3 lakh crore in 2018-19 and Rs 2.58 lakh crore in 2017-18 by way of fuel taxes.

Saudi deposits $3bn into Egypt central bank to help fight coronavirus

01 Nov 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia has deposited $3 billion into Egypt's central bank as part of efforts to help the North African country confront the coronavirus pandemic.

At the same time, the Gulf state extended the terms of $2.3 billion worth of previous deposits.

Egypt and Saudi are close allies with both countries forming half of the quartet which placed a blockade on Qatar in 2017.

EU, U.S. end steel, aluminium clash, take aim at China's 'dirty' steel

ROME, Oct 31 (Reuters) - The United States and the European Union on Sunday ended a dispute over steel and aluminium tariffs and said they would work on a global arrangement on steel and aluminium to combat "dirty" production and overcapacity in the industry.

"The United States and the European Union have reached a major breakthrough that will address the existential threat of climate change while also protecting American jobs and American industry," U.S. President Joe Biden said.

India: Price rise is pricking people, says Dharmendra Pradhan

Kanpur: Amid a sharp rise in the prices of petrol and diesel across the country, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said that Centre is concerned about the issue of inflation and assured that the government will control it in time.

"Inflation is pricking people. Everybody is concerned including the government. The Centre will control this inflation in time," said the minister while speaking to reporters in Uttar Pradesh's Kanpur on Saturday.

Pradhan said that India India imports 80 per cent of petroleum products which has led to an increase in the prices.

Saudi seeks to become home to electric car manufacturers

29 Oct 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia is in talks with several carmakers about manufacturing in the country, Saudi Investment Minister Khalid Al-Falih told Reuters, with an announcement expected this year.

The discussions are part of plans to attract foreign investment to support the transformation of Saudi Arabia's economy and diversify it away from oil.

"A car manufacturer will be announced before year-end, and following that there will be another one or two car manufacturers, and they will be cars of the future," Falih said.

India: Adani Green Energy Q2 profit jumps nearly six-fold

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) Adani Green Energy Ltd (AGEL) on Thursday posted a nearly six-fold increase in consolidated net profit at Rs 100 crore in the September quarter on the back of higher revenues.

The net profit of the company was Rs 17 crore in the quarter ended on September 30, 2020, according to a BSE filing.

The company's total income stood at Rs 1,411 crore in the second quarter of the current fiscal as against Rs 718 crore in the same period a year ago.

India: Delhi Police starts removing barricades at Tikri border put up to stop farmers

New Delhi, Oct 28 (PTI) The Delhi Police on Thursday began removing barricades put up at the Tikri border where thousands of farmers are protesting against the Centre's three agri laws, a senior officer said.

Four out of the eight layers of barricades at Tikri border have been removed. However, the cement barricades are still there and the road remains closed for commuters, the officer said.

Thousands of farmers have been protesting at the three borders of the national capital against the contentious farm laws since November last year.
