Russia offers six-month extension of Idlib border crossing, but US demands a year

09 July 2021; MEMO: Russia has proposed extending the opening of the last humanitarian border crossing into north-west Syria by six months, in a potential compromise move. The United States, however, is demanding a one year extension.

The Bab Al-Hawa crossing on the Turkish-Syrian border remains operational until tomorrow. UN and diplomatic sources have informed AFP that Russia submitted a draft resolution to the other 14 member states of the UN Security Council yesterday.

Saudi launches new US-based news platform in White House lobbying effort

09 July 2021; MEMO: Saudi Arabia is working on creating a digital news platform and a studio in Washington DC as part of the kingdom's efforts to exert political pressure on the White House and the US Congress, CNBC reported yesterday.

This new endeavour, which has not been officially announced, is backed by a subsidiary of the Saudi Technology Development and Investment Company (TAQNIA), according to US Department of Justice documents.

Qatar charity provides jobs for over 50,000 Palestinians

07 July 2021; MEMO: Qatar Charity (QC) has hired more than 50,000 Palestinian graduates and creatives remote jobs through its 'Taqat' initiative.

Described as one of the world's "unique humanitarian initiatives," the initiative aims to alleviate the burden of unemployment, improve the economic situation of Palestinian families and strengthen the role of creative youth in need of work, Qatar News Agency reported.

Turkey is major competitor in armoured vehicle production: Russia maker

08 July 2021; MEMO: Turkey is one of Russia's main competitors in the manufacture of armoured vehicles for the foreign market, Igor Zarakhovich, chief designer of the Russian company AO Remdizel (JSC), said in an interview with Sputnik.

"Today, the situation has emerged that in whatever country we would like to promote our vehicles, there are already Turkish enterprises which have managed to make friends there and provided everyone with their vehicles for trial drives," he said.

India: Seven junior ministers elevated to cabinet rank

New Delhi, Jul 7 (PTI) Seven members of the Union Council of Ministers were elevated as cabinet ministers on Wednesday for their persistent performance in their respective portfolios.

At Wednesday's expansion and reshuffle of the council of ministers, Kiren Rijiju, Raj Kumar Singh, Hardeep Puri, Mansukh Mandaviya, G Kishan Reddy, Parshottam Rupala and Anurag Singh Thakur were elevated as cabinet ministers.

Italy to ease restrictions on arms sales to UAE, Saudi

07 July 2021; MEMO: Italy has loosened restrictions on arms exports to Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, Reuters reported government sources saying yesterday, in a move aimed at easing diplomatic tensions with the two Gulf states.

Italy halted the sale of thousands of missiles to Saudi Arabia and the UAE in January, citing at the time Rome's commitment to restoring peace in war-ravaged Yemen and protecting human rights.
