India: Rajasthan restores 8-hour working in factories

Jaipur, May 26 (PTI) The Rajasthan government has restored the working hours for factory workers to eight hours per day, according to an official statement.

On April 24, the government had increased the working hours to 12 from 8 hours per day to reduce the requirement of workers in all the registered factories, in view of the coronavirus spread.

Czech Republic Lifts More Restrictions, Opens Borders With Austria, Germany

PRAGUE, May 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – The Czech Republic, on Monday, lifted more restrictions, including those on hotels, swimming pools, castles and chateaus, and the indoor sections of restaurants, in a bid to further reopen the economy.

Elementary school children are also allowed to return to school in small groups. Minister of Education, Robert Plaga, proposed that secondary school, vocational, and conservatory school students be able to return to classes on a voluntary basis beginning June 8.

Croatian PM Happy With Progress Of Peljesac Bridge Construction

ZAGREB, May 26 (NNN-XINHUA) – Croatian Prime Minister, Andrej Plenkovic, said that, he is glad to see the progress in the construction of the Peljesac Bridge, despite the COVID-19 outbreak.

Plenkovic and government officials visited the construction site in southern Croatia on Monday afternoon.

Iranian oil tanker berthed at Venezuela’s port ignoring US warnings

TEHRAN, May 25 (IRNA-NNN) — The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported that the first of five Iranian oil tankers headed to Venezuela has berthed at the country’s port ignoring US warnings.

Quoting TankerTrackers tweet, IRNA said the Iranian oil tanker had loaded 43 million liters of gasoline from southern Iranian port of Shahid Rajaei in mid-March.

So far there has been no indication of any interference from the US on the fuel delivery. The remaining vessels are expected to arrive Venezuela in the next few days.

Saudi Arabia Announces Gradual Ease Of Anti-COVID-19 Precautions

RIYADH, May 26 (NNN-SPA) – Saudi Arabia announced on Monday, the gradual ease of precautionary measures against COVID-19.

The gradual steps, with social distancing regulations obeyed, will start from Thursday and expand until the situation is back to normal, the Health Minister, Tawfiq Al-Rabiah, was quoted as saying.

The easing will be based on medical reports of the spread of the virus.

Saudi Arabia controlled the spread of the virus through early precautionary measures, especially maintaining a low death rate.

Israel’s GDP Shrinks 7.1 Percent In Q1, Sharpest Drop In 20 Years

JERUSALEM, May 26 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israel’s GDP contracted by annualised 7.1 percent, in the first quarter of 2020, compared to the fourth quarter of 2019, according to a report released by the state’s Central Bureau of Statistics on Monday.

This decline, sharpest in the last 20 years, is mainly due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, a sharp decrease in passenger car imports intensified the GDP sharp fall.

India: Domestic flights resume after two months

New Delhi, May 25 (PTI) Indian skies will open up for domestic passenger services from Monday after a gap of two months, with Delhi-Pune and Mumbai-Patna flights being among the first to take off, aviation industry sources said.

All scheduled commercial passenger flights have been suspended since March 25 when the government imposed a nationwide lockdown to curb the coronavirus pandemic.

Japan lifts coronavirus emergency in all remaining areas

Tokyo, May 25 (AP/PTI) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe lifted a coronavirus state of emergency in Tokyo and four other remaining areas on Monday, ending the restrictions nationwide.

Experts on a government-commissioned panel approved the lifting of the emergency in Tokyo, neighbouring Kanagawa, Chiba and Saitama prefectures, and in Hokkaido to the north, which had remained under the emergency declaration after it was removed in most of Japan earlier this month.

India: Raj Thackeray hits out at UP CM's stand on migrant workers

Mumbai, May 25 (PTI) A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said states will have to seek permission from his government if they want UP migrant workers back, MNS chief Raj Thackeray on Monday said labourers will have to seek nod of the Maharashtra government also if they wish to work here.

The Maharashtra government needs to take such things seriously, said the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief, who is the estranged cousin of state Chief Minister and Shiv Sena president Uddhav Thackeray.

India: UP CM moots two-pronged strategy for migrant workers

Lucknow, May 25 (PTI) In a two-pronged strategy to help migrant workers, the Uttar Pradesh government has decided to set up a Migration Commission for their employment in the state and made it clear that any other state that wants labourers from UP has to seek its permission.

With around 25 lakh workers and migrants having returned to the state till Sunday, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed that a Migration Commission be set up, according to Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Awanish Awasthi.
