Palestine: Veteran journalist Shireen Abu Akleh killed by Israeli forces honoured with street naming

21 August 2022; MEMO: More than 100 days after Shireen Abu Akleh was murdered in Jenin, hundreds of Palestinians and supporters gathered in Ramallah to unveil a street named after the Palestinian veteran journalist.

The street is on the way that Abu Akleh used to travel daily to get to work at the Al-Jazeera network office in Ramallah and where she was reporting live coverage of incidents in Palestine.

Palestinian president to visit Turkiye Monday

21 August 2022; MEMO: Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is set to arrive in Turkiye on Monday for a three-day official visit, the state news agency Wafa reported.

Abbas will meet with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan for talks on bilateral relations, Palestinian Ambassador Fa'ed Mustafa said in statements cited by Wafa.

The discussions between the two leaders will also take up developments and regional and international issues of mutual concern, he added.

Palestine: PLO opens its offices to rights groups closed by Israel

22 August 2022; MEMO: The Palestinian Liberation Organisation (PLO) yesterday announced that it had opened its offices as temporary headquarters for the seven rights groups closed by Israel, the PLO's Human Rights Department said.

Following an emergency meeting held in Ramallah, the PLO's Human Rights Department said that its decision comes in response to the Israeli decision to close the Palestinian rights groups.

Palestinian President Condemns Israel’s Closure Of Seven NGOs

RAMALLAH, Aug 21 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, yesterday, condemned Israel’s closure of seven Palestinian non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the West Bank.

Abbas made the remarks in a meeting with the NGOs’ representatives and directors.

On Thursday, the Israeli army stormed the West Bank city of Ramallah and closed these Palestinian NGOs.

Israel has outlawed six of these NGOs, which were labelled as “terrorist” organisations, in Oct, 2021.

Unarmed Palestinian Man Killed By Israeli Soldiers In West Bank: Health Ministry

RAMALLAH, Aug 20 (NNN-WAFA) – A Palestinian man was killed yesterday by Israeli soldiers, in the West Bank city of Tubas, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The Palestinian health ministry identified the man as 58-year-old Salah Tawfiq Sawafta, and said, he succumbed to his wounds after he was shot in the head.

Salah Sawafta, 58, died from critical injuries after being shot in the head by Israeli soldiers, the ministry said in a press statement.

Palestinian killed during Israeli raid in occupied West Bank

RAMALLAH, West Bank (AP) — A 58-year-old Palestinian man was shot and killed outside a bakery during an Israeli raid in the occupied West Bank early on Friday.

His family and the Palestinian Health Ministry said he was shot by Israeli troops. The military said he may have been struck by gunfire from Palestinian militants during clashes that broke out during the raid. Neither side provided evidence to support its assertion.

17 August 2022; MEMO: A prominent leader in the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas confirmed that his movement does not veto any contact or relations with political entities other than with the Israeli occupation. This comes at a time when there has been news of "unannounced" contact between the current US administration headed by Joe Biden, and Hamas.
