Saudi Arabia: court adjourns before sentencing Palestinians and Jordanians

17 Feb 2021; MEMO: A Saudi Arabian court adjourned on Monday before sentencing more than 60 Palestinian and Jordanian prisoners, the Chairman of the Jordanian Committee on Political Prisoners, Khader Al-Mashayekh, has revealed. The court will pronounce the sentences on 21 June.

Israel may not engage with Biden over Iran nuclear issue

At the same time, Gilad Erdan urged tougher sanctions and a "credible military threat" against Iran in order to deter its nuclear programme.

Iran's Khamenei says Tehran wants "action not words" from parties to 2015 deal

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran wants to see “action not words” from parties to the country’s 2015 nuclear deal, Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said on Wednesday, as U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration hopes to revive the accord.

“We have heard many nice words and promises which in practice have been broken and opposite actions have been taken. Words and promises are no good. This time (we want) only action from the other side and we will also act,” Khamenei said in a televised speech.

Egypt arrests Mohamed Soltan's cousins in fresh bid to silence him

17 Feb 2021; MEMO: Egyptian authorities have once again arrested relatives of former political prisoner Mohamed Soltan who lives in the United States as part of a campaign to stop him from speaking out about human rights abuses in the country.

Six of Soltan's relatives were arrested on Sunday morning in Mounofiya and Alexandria, according to a statement released by the Freedom Initiative.

Hezbollah leader opposes int'l interference to solve Lebanon's crisis

BEIRUT, Feb. 16 (Xinhua) -- Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah expressed on Tuesday his strong rejection to attempts by some Lebanese political parties to seek international help to solve Lebanon's political deadlock, al-Manar local TV channel reported.

"Calling for international intervention under UN Charter VII is a call for war. It's unacceptable regardless of who said so," Nasrallah said in a televised speech.

Turkish police detain 30 suspects over failed 2016 coup

ISTANBUL, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Wednesday detained 30 suspects here over their alleged link to a network believed to be behind a coup attempt in 2016.

Police have launched simultaneous operations in 29 locations as part of an investigation led by the Chief Public Prosecutor's Office in Istanbul, the state-run Anadolu agency reported.

They also found more than 17,000 euros (20,527 U.S. dollars) and some organizational materials during the raids, Anadolu said, adding that operations are still going on to capture one missing suspect.
