Syrian businessman Haswani denies links to Beirut blast chemicals

Icon Marwan Barghouti to run for Palestinian presidency

28 Jan 2021; MEMO: The prominent Palestinian Fatah group's leader Marwan al-Barghouti, who is serving a life-term sentence in Israeli jails, will run for the Palestinian presidency in July, sources in the Fatah group told Anadolu Agency on Wednesday, Anadolu reports.

Member of the Fatah Revolutionary Council Hatem Abdel-Qader said al-Barghouti is "intending to run for the Palestinian Authority presidential elections".

'Turkey remains the only refuge for the oppressed': Justice and Development Party

28 Jan 2021; MEMO: The Turkish Justice and Development Party have announced that: "History is a witness to Turkey's advocacy for human dignity, and its assistance to the Jews when they were fleeing death and facing genocide."

This came in a tweet by the ruling party's Spokesperson Omer Celik on Wednesday, on the occasion of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

Lebanese protest rise in poverty amid covid lockdown

27 Jan 2021; MEMO: Anti-lockdown protesters clashed with police in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli last night, leaving 45 injured.

At least nine were taken to hospital for treatment by the Lebanese Red Cross following the clashes.

Protesters targeted government offices, torched a military vehicle and blocked the city's main square.

The army was deployed to contain the demonstrators, Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) reported.

Iran hopes to strike deal with Russia on Sputnik V supply soon

TEHRAN, January 27. /TASS/: Iran expects to sign an agreement with Russia on the Sputnik V COVID-19 vaccine’s supply in the coming days, the Iranian president’s Chief of Staff Mahmoud Vaezi announced on Wednesday.

"We have launched negotiations with Russia. I hope that an agreement will be signed today or tomorrow," he said, noting that the vaccine could be delivered within three months.

Pro-Gov’t Forces Find Mass Grave In Syria’s Deir Al-Zour

DAMASCUS, Jan 27 (NNN-SANA) – Pro-government fighters found a mass grave with nine bodies, in Syria’s eastern province of Deir al-Zour yesterday, a war monitor reported.

The nine bodies belong to the Daesh militants, who were killed during battles with the Syrian government forces years ago, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

In Oct, 2020, a Syrian tribe uncovered a mass grave with bodies of 26 people killed by the Daesh militants in Deir al-Zour, in 2014.

Israel’s Army Chief Warns U.S. Against Rejoining Iran Nuclear Deal

JERUSALEM, Jan 27 (NNN-MA’AN) – Israeli military chief, Aviv Kochavi, warned the United States against rejoining the 2015 Iran nuclear agreement, arguing that it might enable Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

Speaking in an online conference, held by the Institute for National Security Studies, an Israeli security think tank, Kochavi said that, a return to the deal will be “bad operationally and bad strategically.”
