Saudi Arabia to lift Qatar embargo, easing the Gulf crisis

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Saudi Arabia will open its airspace and land border to Qatar in the first step toward ending a years-long diplomatic crisis that deeply divided U.S. defense partners, frayed societal ties and tore apart a traditionally clubby alliance of Gulf states, officials said late Monday.

Turkish Forces Shell Strategic Town In North Syria: Monitor

DAMASCUS, Jan 4 (NNN-SANA) – Turkish forces and allied rebels yesterday renewed shelling on a Kurdish-controlled town in northern Syria, in a bid to advance in that strategic area, a war monitor reported.

The shelling targeted the town of Ayn Issa in the northern province of Raqqa, as the Turkey-backed rebels attempted to advance on the western outskirts of the area said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Turkey-backed rebels fought intense battles with the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), amid heavy Turkish shelling in Ayn Issa, north of Raqqa.

Iran to produce UF6 enriched uranium

Tehran, Jan 4, IRNA – Government spokesman Ali Rabiei said on Monday that Iran has started the pre-processing stage of gas injection a couple of hours ago in Fordow nuclear site, noting that the first UF6 enriched uranium will be produced in a few hours.

Speaking to IRNA, Rabiei said that Iran's President Hassan Rouhani has issued the order to implement the law of strategic measure passed by Majlis to remove the sanctions in the past few days.

Netanyahu canvasses for Arab votes in election campaign

04 Jan 2021; MEMO: Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has been canvassing Arab citizens in Israel for their votes in the upcoming General Election, Quds Press reported on Sunday. Netanyahu is also the leader of the Likud Party.

According to Quds Press, official Israeli radio reported Netanyahu telling closed Likud meetings that he is planning to allocate a guaranteed place for an Arab candidate on the party's electoral list. He also said that he might even choose an Arab as a minister.

MP to reactivate international solidarity to end Israel's siege of Gaza

04 Jan 2021; MEMO: The head of the Popular Committee against the Siege of Gaza has said that 2021 will be the year for Arab, Islamic and international solidarity to end the 14-year Israeli siege of the Gaza Strip. Palestinian MP Jamal Al-Khudari told local media that the solidarity should come from parliamentarians, civil society and pro-Palestine groups.

Iraq arrests parents selling their 5-year-old son for $7,000

04 Jan 2021; MEMO: Iraqi security authorities arrested a man and his wife as they tried to sell their five-year-old son in the Karrada district in the capital, Baghdad, the Ministry of the Interior said.

"The Iraqi intelligence service had received information concerning a human trafficking operation which involves the sale of a child by his parents," the ministry said in a statement, adding that a technical team had been formed to follow up on the operation.

Aden airport reopens after deadly attack

04 Jan 2021; MEMO: Aden International Airport reopened yesterday after a Houthi-led missile attack on the terminal last week, local media has reported.

The attack took place on Wednesday moments after new cabinet members landed on a flight from the Saudi Arabian capital of Riyadh. At least 25 people were killed and 110 others were injured.

Abbas tells Hamas that he is 'committed' to holding elections

04 Jan 2021; MEMO: Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has told Hamas that he is "committed" to holding elections. He provided the details in a letter to the head of the Hamas political bureau, Ismail Haniyah.

In a statement issued through the movement's media advisor, Taher Al-Nunu, Haniyeh said that the letter provides grounds for building a partnership, ending the Palestinian division and creating unity among the people and leadership through a fair and transparent democratic process.
