Iran Guards unveils underground missile base in the Gulf - state media

DUBAI (Reuters) - Iran’s elite Revolutionary Guards on Friday unveiled an underground missile base at an undisclosed Gulf location, Iranian state media reported on Friday, at a time of heightened tension between Tehran and the United States.

“The base is one of the several bases housing the Guards’ Navy’s strategic missiles,” state media quoted head of the Guards Major General Hossein Salami as saying.

Facebook deletes IUMS page after union issues fatwa to boycott Israel

07 Jan 2021; MEMO: The International Union of Muslim Scholars (IUMS) has condemned the removal of its page by Facebook on Tuesday and has launched a new one, calling on "all Muslims and fair people in the world" to support the organisation.

In a statement, the IUMS attributed the removal of its Facebook page to its support of causes, such as the Palestinian cause.

Qatar finance minister visits Egypt for first time since Gulf blockade

07 Jan 2021; MEMO: Qatari Finance Minister Ali Al-Emadi along with a delegation arrived on Tuesday in the Egyptian capital Cairo for the first time since the start of the Gulf blockade in 2017.

Germany's DPA reported that Al-Emadi was due to attend the inauguration of the luxury St. Regis Hotel – owned by the Qatari Diar. The Nile-side hotel has long stood empty as a result of the blockade.

Israel uproots thousands of trees from Palestinian lands in West Bank

07 Jan 2021; MEMO:Israeli occupation forces yesterday uprooted thousands of olive trees in the West Bank's central occupied city of Salfit.

Eyewitnesses told the media that occupation forces closed the "western side of the town, known as the 'Khallat Al-Abhar' area."

"Army buldozers have uprooted olive trees and seedlings which belong to the Palestinian citizens, Nesfat Ezzat Moussa, Ghazi Hosni Musa, Omar Abdullah Musa and Muhammad Musa," they were quoated as saying.

UN Envoy, Yemeni President Meet Over Plan For Yemen’s Peace

SANAA, Jan 7 (NNN-SABA) – UN Special Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, yesterday met with Yemeni President, Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.

They discussed a UN-brokered plan to push forward peace in Yemen.

Griffiths would be flying to Yemen’s southern port city of Aden, in the coming days, for meetings with Hadi’s government.

The UN envoy recently proposed an agreement between the Yemeni government and the Houthi rebels to enable resumption of political talks to end the war.

Israeli Missile Attack Targets Military Sites South Of Syrian Capital: Report

DAMASCUS, Jan 7 (NNN-SANA) – The Syrian air defences responded to an Israeli missile attack, on the south of the capital, Damascus, last night.

The sounds of Syrian anti-air weapons were heard in Damascus, the report said.

A military source said, the Israeli attack was carried out from over the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights and targeted some military sites in south Damascus.

It added that, the Syrian air defences intercepted most of the Israeli missiles.

The Israeli attack is the latest to target military sites in Syria.

Travel, trade may resume within a week to Qatar, says UAE

DUBAI (Reuters) - Arab states boycotting Qatar could resume travel and trade links with Doha within a week under a U.S.-backed deal, but restoring diplomatic ties requires more time as parties work to rebuild trust, a United Arab Emirates official said on Thursday.

Gulf powerhouse Saudi Arabia announced the breakthrough in ending a bitter dispute at a summit on Tuesday, with its foreign minister saying Riyadh and its allies would restore all ties with Doha severed in mid-2017.

US Mnuchin condemns Capitol violence, looks to transition; Netanyahu calls incident a 'rampage'

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on Thursday condemned violence at the Capitol as “completely unacceptable” and said he looked forward to continued work on the transition to the administration of President-elect Joe Biden

Mnuchin spoke during a visit to Israel, where his host, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, also condemned Wednesday’s storming of the U.S. Congress by supporters of outgoing Republican President Donald Trump.
