Arab woman to run for Israeli presidency

An Arab businesswoman has announced her intention to stand in Israel's presidential election, the Jerusalem Post reported on Tuesday. If elected by the Knesset, Ahlam Khazen would be the country's first non-Jewish president. The seven-year tenure of current President Reuven Rivlin ends in July next year.

"I want to represent all the people of Israel and all the parties," explained Khazen. "I want to reinforce coexistence."

UAE signed settlement deals before normalisation with Israel

EU says to work to deliver available COVID-19 vaccines to Gaza

GAZA, Dec. 8 (Xinhua) -- An EU delegation said on Tuesday that the EU will provide necessary medical gear for COVID-19 tests in the Gaza Strip and work to deliver vaccines to the besieged enclave once they are available.

"Once the vaccine is available, it would be first provided for those working on the front line of medical care and elderly patients," Sven Kuhn von Burgsdorff, the EU representative in Palestine, told a press conference in Gaza.

UAE says Chinese vaccine 86% effective, offers few details

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates said Wednesday a Chinese coronavirus vaccine tested in the federation of sheikhdoms is 86% effective, in a statement that provided few details but marked the first public release of information on the efficacy of the shot.

The UAE, home to Dubai and Abu Dhabi, conducted a trial beginning in September of the vaccine by Chinese state-owned pharmaceutical giant Sinopharm involving 31,000 volunteers from 125 nations. Volunteers between 18 and 60 years old received two doses of the vaccine over 28 days.

Explosions Heard In Syria’s Golan Heights Area

DAMASCUS, Dec 8 (NNN-SANA) – A series of explosion were heard in Syria’s south-western Quneitra Governorate today, causing no casualties, so far, Syrian media reported.

According to reports by Alikhbaria TV (Syrian News Channel), the sounds of powerful blasts were heard, in the southern suburbs of the largely destroyed and abandoned capital of Quneitra, in the early morning hours.

The explosions occurred near the country’s border with Israel, and it was unclear what caused the blasts, the reports said.

Turkey calls on EU to act with common sense, says wants to improve ties

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey wants to improve ties with the European Union on the basis of full membership, Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said on Tuesday, adding that problems between them could only be solved if the bloc acted with common sense at a summit this week and beyond.

On Monday, EU foreign ministers said Turkey had failed to help resolve a dispute with EU members Greece and Cyprus over natural gas resources in the eastern Mediterranean, but they left any decision on retaliatory sanctions for an EU summit on Thursday.

Evangelical Association in Egypt sets up school to treat homosexuality

08 Dec 2020; MEMO:  The Evangelical Association in Egypt has set up a school to "treat" homosexuality, reports the Egypt Independent.

Pastor Tony George, who works for the Evangelicals Association in Egypt and the Middle East, said that homosexuality has its roots in childhood trauma and that the school will help people on the path to change.

"Recovering from homosexuality is not impossible," he said.
