Russia ready to take part in developing Turkish fighter jets

DUBAI/United Arab Emirates/, November 17. /TASS/: Russia is ready to take part in developing Turkish fighter jets of 4++ and fifth-generation and offer its technologies, Head of Russia’s Federal Service for Military and Technical Cooperation Dmitry Shugayev told reporters at Dubai Airshow-2019 on Sunday.

"As for developing advanced aircraft, now the sides are in technical talks on 4++ generation aircraft and are also holding the first preliminary consultations on the fifth-generation jet," Shugayev said.

Aramco IPO range values Saudi oil giant at up to $1.7 trillion

DUBAI (Reuters) - Saudi Aramco is worth up to $1.7 trillion at the IPO price range set by the oil giant on Sunday, below the $2 trillion targeted by Saudi’s crown prince but still vying for the title of the world’s biggest IPO.

However Aramco cannot sell the shares directly to investors in the United States and other markets, as the deal will now be restricted to Saudis and foreign institutions, who can invest in shares in the kingdom’s stock market.

UN chief's envoy holds talks with Cypriot community leaders ahead of crucial meeting

NICOSIA, Nov. 16 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General's personal envoy on Cyprus, Jane Holl Lute, completed a new round of talks with the Cypriot community leaders on Saturday, ahead of a crucial joint meeting that the UN chief will have with them on Nov. 25.

At the meeting to be held in Berlin, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres will decide whether the two sides are close enough, so as to convene a round of negotiations.

Iran supreme leader warns ‘thugs’ amid gas price protests

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran’s supreme leader on Sunday backed the government’s decision to raise gasoline prices and called angry protesters who have been setting fire to public property over the hike “thugs,” signaling a potential crackdown on the demonstrations.

Ayatollah Ali Khamenei’s comments came as authorities shut down the internet across Iran to smother the protests in some two dozen cities and towns over the rise of government-set prices by 50% as of Friday.

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Protesters angered by Iran raising government-set gasoline prices by 50% blocked traffic in major cities and occasionally clashed with police Saturday after a night of demonstrations punctuated by gunfire, in violence that reportedly killed at least one person.

The protests put renewed pressure on Iran’s government as it struggles to overcome the U.S. sanctions strangling the country after President Donald Trump unilaterally withdrew America from Tehran’s nuclear deal with world powers.

Turkey: Over 6,000 Syrians moved from Istanbul

16 Nov 2019; MEMO: Turkey has sent more than 6,000 Syrian migrants in Istanbul to temporary housing centres in other provinces since early July, the local governor’s office said on Friday, two weeks after a deadline for Syrians not registered in the city to leave.

Authorities had given Syrians not registered in Istanbul until October 30 to move to another province or face forced removal from the city, reported Reuters.

Gaza suffers $3m in damages following Israel strikes

16 Nov 2019; MEMO: Losses from Israel’s bombing of the Gaza Strip this year amount to $3 million, the Media Office in the enclave reported.

Some 500 housing units were either partial, severely or totally damaged, the office said, including eight houses and 12 housing units, with an estimated total value of $2 million, in addition to agricultural losses as a result of damage to land, farms, irrigation systems and fishing boats, worth more than one million shekels ($0.29 million).

Russia, Turkey complete seventh patrol in northeast Syria - Turkish Defense Ministry

ANKARA, November 16. /TASS/: Russian and Turkish military personnel have completed the seventh joint patrol in northeast Syria, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense reported on Saturday.

"In accordance with the plans, Turkish and Russian servicemen successfully conducted the seventh ground patrol with drone support east of the Euphrates River. The land patrol carried out in the Qamishli-Derik sector involved four [armored] vehicles on each side. The patrolling was also carried out with the air support of a helicopter 10 km inside [Syria]," the statement reads.

Turkey replaces four more Kurdish mayors over alleged terror links

ANKARA (Reuters) - Turkey removed four more mayors from their posts on Saturday as part of a widening government crackdown against the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), and replaced them with state appointees.

President Tayyip Erdogan and his government accuse the HDP of having links to the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) militant group, leading to prosecutions of thousands of its members and some leaders. The HDP denies such links.
