Female Kuwait minister who ‘hindered the state’, resigns

13 Nov 2019; MEMO:Kuwait’s Minister of Public Works and Housing Affairs, Janan Boushahri, yesterday announced her resignation as she was being questioned at the country’s National Assembly, official news site KUNA  reported.

“From my rostrum, I announce my resignation because, unfortunately, companies and influential people are stronger than the right,” Boushahri said.

Saudi hands jail terms to 38 on terror related charges

13 Nov 2019; MEMO: Saudi Arabia’s Specialist Criminal Court in Riyadh yesterday sentenced 38 defendants to prison terms ranging from six months to 25 years on charges of financing terrorism and declaring other Muslims as non-believers, state-run Al-Ekhbariya channel reported.

The channel said one of the convicts set up a terrorist organisation while in prison and recruited prisoners, without giving further details.

US envoy to Yemen: We are ready to support Riyadh Agreement

13 Nov 2019; MEMO: The US is ready to support the Riyadh Agreement signed between the internationally backed Yemen government and UAE-backed separatist Southern Transitional Council, US Ambassador to Yemen Christopher Henzel said yesterday.

This came in a meeting held in the Saudi capital between the US Ambassador and the Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik Saeed.

Calls for Egypt to allow detained Al Jazeera journalist to attend father’s funeral

13 Nov 2019; MEMO: The family of Mahmoud Hussein, the imprisoned Al Jazeera journalist, are calling on Egyptian authorities to give him permission to attend his father’s funeral after he passed away yesterday.

In September Hussein requested permission to visit his father Hussein Jumaa but the request was denied. Jumaa had five strokes in the period of time Hussein has been in prison.

Islamic Jihad announces death of another commander in an Israeli strike

CAIRO, November 13. /TASS/: The radical Palestinian group Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine has declared the death of another commander during Israel’s attacks on the Gaza Strip on Wednesday, TV channel Al Mayadeen reports.

Commander of the Al-Quds Brigades armed wing of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad, 38-year-old Khaled Faraj, was killed in an airstrike near a farm.

Turkey launches large-scale operation against Kurdish militant group

ANKARA, November 13. /TASS/: More than 2,000 Turkish forces are taking part in a new operation against the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), a Kurdish militant group, in southeastern Turkey, the Interior Ministry said on Wednesday.

Operation Kiran-6 is carried out in the provinces of Van, Hakkari and Sirnak. Its goal is to prevent the PKK’s preparations for winter, when its members set up fortifications and create infrastructure in order to ensure activity on Turkish soil. The operation involves 2,360 personnel from police and regional security forces.

OPEC Secretary General says U.S.-China trade deal would remove 'dark cloud' on oil market

ABU DHABI (Reuters) - OPEC’s Secretary General Mohammad Barkindo said on Wednesday he is confident that the United States and China would reach a trade deal and that it would remove a “dark cloud” over the oil market.

It is premature to discuss the December OPEC+ decision and it is too early to say if further output cuts would be needed, Barkindo told reporters on the sidelines of an industry event in Abu Dhabi.

OPEC and it’s non-OPEC partners need to continue working together to weather uncertainties and are committed to doing so, he said.

Egyptian FM, UN envoy discuss ways to resolve Libyan crisis

CAIRO, Nov. 12 (Xinhua) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry on Tuesday met with the United Nations envoy to Libya Ghassan Salame to discuss ways to resolve the crisis in Libya.

During the meeting, Shoukry reaffirmed Egypt's call for reaching a comprehensive political settlement in Libya in a way that preserves the unity and integrity of the North African country, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
