Turkish, Russian Presidents Discuss Syria, Bilateral Ties

ANKARA, Nov 10 (NNN-ANADOLU) – Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, discussed Syria and bilateral relations over the phone, Turkey’s presidential office said.

Both leaders confirmed their commitment to the “Sochi deal” reached on Oct 22, between Ankara and Moscow, for the withdrawal of Syrian Kurdish fighters from the areas along the Turkish border in northern Syria.

Fatah Party Announces Abbas As Its Only Candidate For President

RAMALLAH, Palestine, Nov 10 (NNN-WAFA) – Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, is Fatah’s “sole candidate” in the coming presidential elections, Fatah party announced in an official statement on Saturday.

Abbas is also the chairman of Fatah’s Central Committee and chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) Executive Committee.

Fatah’s announcement was made in a meeting held in Ramallah, chaired by Abbas’ deputy, Mahmoud al-Aloul, which discussed holding the general elections.

Lebanon’s mufti calls for forming emergency government

9 Nov 2019; MEMO: Lebanon’s grand mufti on Saturday called for the formation of an emergency government of experts amid protests rocking the Arab country, reported by Anadolu Agency. 

“It is time for reforms to start … [and] to form a government of experts and implement [caretaker] Prime Minister [Saad] Hariri’s economic paper,” Abdel-Latif Derian, the top cleric for Sunni Muslims, said in his message to the nation on Prophet Mohammad’s birthday.

Rockets hit near Iraq base hosting US forces

10 Nov 2019; MEMO: A barrage of 17 rockets landed near a military base housing US forces in northern Iraq, reported by Anadolu Agency.

General Noman al-Zawbae, commander of Nineveh Operations Command, described Friday’s incident near Qayyara military base as “accidental”.

No casualties or damages were reported.

It remains unclear who was behind the fire.

Erdogan and Putin also discussed steps to be taken for developing bilateral relations and increasing bilateral trade volume, said the presidency.

Turkey says to start sending IS fighters home amid row with Europe

ANKARA, Nov. 9 (Xinhua) -- Turkey said that it would start sending captured foreign Islamic State (IS) fighters to their countries next week amid a row with European nations.

Over the last week, Turkish interior minister Suleyman Soylu has several times harshly criticized European countries for inaction, vowing to repatriate IS militants, even if their citizenship has been revoked.

On Friday, he was even more direct and told semi-official Anadolu news agency that the repatriation process will start as soon as Monday.

Iran’s president: New oil field found with over 50B barrels

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has discovered a new oil field in the country’s south with over 50 billion barrels of crude oil, its president said Sunday, a find that could boost the country’s proven reserves by a third as it struggles to sell energy abroad over U.S. sanctions.

The announcement by Hassan Rouhani comes as Iran faces crushing American sanctions after the U.S. pulled out of its nuclear deal with world powers last year.

Iran says case open on ex-FBI agent missing there on CIA job

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Iran is acknowledging for the first time it has an open case before its Revolutionary Court over the 2007 disappearance of a former FBI agent on an unauthorized CIA mission to the country, renewing questions over what happened to him.

In a filing to the United Nations, Iran said the case over Robert Levinson was “on going,” without elaborating.

Saudi Aramco takes another step toward 1st public offering

Iraqi forces kill 6 protesters, retake key Baghdad bridges

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi security forces killed six anti-government protesters and wounded more than 100 others on Saturday, pushing them back from three flashpoint bridges in central Baghdad, medical and security officials said.

Five of the protesters were killed by live ammunition, while the sixth died after being shot in the head with a tear gas canister. The Iraqi officials spoke on condition of anonymity in line with regulations.
