Palestine: 140,000 worshippers attend night prayers at Al-Aqsa Mosque

08 Apr 2023; MEMO: Following two days of violent Israeli attacks on worshippers at Al-Aqsa Mosque, around 140,000 Muslim worshippers attended Isha and Taraweeh prayers on the 16th day of Ramadan, Wafa News Agency reported.

This came despite the tightened restrictions and amplified military deployments at the holy site gates and across the Old City of Jerusalem.

1 dead, 7 injured in Tel Aviv attack

08 Apr 2023; MEMO: A tourist was killed and seven others injured Friday in a shooting and ramming attack in the Israeli capital of Tel Aviv, according to reports, says Anadolu Agency.

An attacker opened fire and killed one person while driving a vehicle along the coastal road in central Tel Aviv.

The slain victim was an Italian tourist, according to Israeli media.

Tunisia Foiled Over 500 Illegal Immigration Attempts In Q1

TUNIS, Apr 8 (NNN-TAP) – The Tunisian coast guards have thwarted 501 illegal immigration attempts, in the first quarter of this year, the Tunisian National Guard said, yesterday.

A total of 14,406 people, including 13,138 from sub-Saharan African countries, were rescued between Jan and Mar, while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea towards the Italian coast, Spokesman for the Tunisian National Guard, Houcemeddine Jbabli, said in a statement.

Landmine kills 6 truffle collectors in E. Syria

DAMASCUS, April 8 (Xinhua) -- A landmine explosion killed six civilians in Syria's central Homs province on Saturday, the latest tragedy caused by the country's undetected landmines and unexploded ordnances, state news agency SANA reported.

The landmine ripped through a car transporting workers en route to collecting truffles in the al-Amour Mount area in the countryside of Al-Sukhnah town east of Homs, said SANA.

Iraq, Syria’s Kurdish leader condemn attack on airport

BAGHDAD (AP) — The commander of the main U.S.-backed force in Syria and Iraq’s presidency Saturday condemned what they say was a Turkish attack on an airport in northern Iraq.

Iraq’s presidency called the late Friday explosion in northern Iraq’s semi-autonomous Kurdish region a “flagrant aggression against Iraq and its sovereignty” in the area. It called on Turkey to issue a formal apology, saying it should not continue “terrorizing” Iraqis in the north.

A representative of the Turkish defense ministry said he had no information about the incident.

UAE: US deploys guided-missile submarine amid tensions with Iran

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The U.S. Navy has deployed a guided-missile submarine capable of carrying up to 154 Tomahawk missiles to the Middle East, a spokesman said Saturday, in what appeared to be a show of force toward Iran following recent tensions.

The Navy rarely acknowledges the location or deployment of submarines. Cmdr. Timothy Hawkins, a spokesman for the 5th Fleet based in the Gulf nation of Bahrain, declined to comment on the submarine’s mission or what had prompted the deployment.

UAE turns down South Africa's request for Indian-origin Gupta brothers' extradition

Johannesburg, Apr 7 (PTI) South Africa said Friday that the UAE has turned down its request to extradite two brothers from the wealthy Indian-origin Gupta family to face trial in the country on fraud and corruption charges.

The three Gupta brothers, Ajay, Atul and Rajesh, are wanted in South Africa for their alleged roles in the looting of billions of rands from state enterprises. They are alleged to have used their closeness to former president Jacob Zuma to do this.
