Boeing finishes software update for grounded airliner

17 May 2019 (AP) - Boeing says it has finished with its updates to the flight-control software implicated in two deadly crashes involving its 737 Max, moving a step closer to getting the plane back in the sky.

Aviation regulators still have more questions about how pilots interact with the plane’s controls under different circumstances, and Boeing says it is providing that information.

The Federal Aviation Administration, foreign regulators and airlines are reviewing Boeing’s plans for additional pilot training, the company said Thursday.

India: HC reserves orders on Haasan's anticipatory bail plea

Madurai, May 16 (PTI) The Madras High Court Thursday reserved its order on the anticipatory bail petition filed by MNM chief Kamal Haasan over his "free India's first extremist was a Hindu" remark made during an election meeting in the Aravkurichi assembly constituency.

When the bail plea by the actor-politician came up, Justice B Pugalendhi reserved the orders without mentioning a date.

Police in Aravakurichi in Karur district have registered a case against the actor based on a complaint filed by a right wing activist.

India: Pragya Thakur apologises for calling Godse a 'patriot'

New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) Under fire for her "Nathuram-Godse-is-a-patriot" remark, BJP's Bhopal Lok Sabha seat candidate Pragya Singh Thakur tendered an apology on Thursday night and said she respected Mahatma Gandhi as his work for the country cannot be forgotten.

"My sentiment was not to hurt anyone's feelings. If it has hurt anybody's feelings then I apologise. What Gandhi ji has done for the country cannot be forgotten. I respect him a lot," she said in a video statement.

AJ Sports named Pakistan’s World Cup kit sponsor

LAHORE, May 16 (APP): The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Thursday announced that AJ Sports are their kit sponsor for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019, which will be played in England and Wales from 30 May to 14 July.

Established in 1987, AJ Sports is an ICC-approved manufacturer, which has also previously sponsored and supplied clothing and cricket equipment to the Pakistan cricket team for various series and also to the Bangladesh and Sri Lanka cricket teams for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2003.

US: Flynn described efforts to interfere with cooperation

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn told the special counsel’s office that people connected to the Trump administration and Congress sought to influence his cooperation with the Russia investigation, and he provided a voicemail recording of one such communication, prosecutors said in a court filing made public Thursday.

Meanwhile, the judge in the case ordered that portions of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report that relate to Flynn be unredacted and made public by the end of the month.

Russia opposes selling gas to Ukraine on eastern border for supply to EU

Indian Polls: Campaigning ends early for phase 7 of LS polls in Bengal

Kolkata, May 16 (PTI) In a first in the country, campaigning for nine Lok Sabha seats in West Bengal going to polls in the last phase came to an end at 10 pm on Thursday, 20 hours before the scheduled time, as per orders of the Election Commission.

Polling will be held in nine constituencies of south Bengal on Sunday where an electorate of 1,49,63,064 will decide the fate of 111 candidates, the EC said.

Chennai, May 17 (PTI) Actor-politician Kamal Haasan, who is at the centre of a raging row over his Hindu extremist remarks, Friday said "every religion has its own terrorists" and that no one can claim to be sanctimonious.

The Makkal Needhi Maiam chief also said that he was not afraid of being arrested but warned any such action would escalate tensions.

Indian Polls: EC orders repoll at in Delhi's Chandni Chowk

New Delhi, May 16 (PTI) The Election Commission Thursday ordered repoll at a booth in the Chandni Chowk parliamentary constituency, officials said Thursday.

The Chief Electoral Office of Delhi had submitted a report to the EC asking for a repoll in polling station number 32 after the presiding officer forgot to delete the 'test votes' that were cast during mock poll before actual polling commenced at 7 am on May 12, they said.

UAE pardons ex-Muslim Brotherhood leader Al-Suwaidi

17 May 2019; MEMO: UAE President Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has pardoned former leader of the Muslim Brotherhood Abdulrahman Bin Subaih Al-Suwaidi who was convicted in the “secret organisation” case.

Emarat Al Youm reported that “the decision came after Al-Suwaidi discovered that the group had planned to destabilise the UAE’s security and so he decided to revoke his allegiance to it and return to his homeland.”

12 exposed to debris, pilot safe after F-16 hits warehouse

RIVERSIDE, Calif. (AP) — A warehouse worker said he heard the deafening noise of an F-16 jet moments before it smashed through the roof of the building near a Southern California air base.

“Next thing I know I just hear this explosion and turn around to the back of the building, and I just seen a burst of flames and just the ceiling started falling through every part of the building,” Daniel Gallegos told KABC-TV. “I turned around, and my co-worker just told me to get out, so I just made a run for it.”
