Trump lawyer Giuliani threatens, then abandons, Ukraine trip

NEW YORK (AP) — Democrats denounced a plan by President Donald Trump’s personal attorney to push Ukraine to open investigations that he hopes could benefit Trump politically, saying it was an overt attempt to recruit foreign help to influence a U.S. election.

But lawyer Rudy Giuliani has scrapped plans to visit Ukraine, citing concerns about who he would be dealing with there.

US deploys B-52 bombers to Qatar amid alleged Iran 'threat'

Washington, May 10; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The US Air Force released images of B-52 Stratofortress bombers landing in Qatar. The deployment is part of a larger US military build-up in the region touted as a countermeasure to an unspecified threat from Iran.

The strategic bombers arrived at Al Udeid Air Base in Qatar on Thursday night, the Air Force said. They were provided by the 20th Bomb Squadron of Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana. Other B-52s were moved to an unspecified location in “southwest Asia,” the statement said.

India: Bishop Franco Mulakkal appears in court

Kottayam (Ker), May 10 (PTI) Bishop Franco Mulakkal, accused of raping and sexually assaulting a nun in Kerala, Friday appeared before a magistrate court in Pala.

The Pala Judicial First Class Magistrate Court (JFMC), which issued summons to the accused last week directing him to appear before it on May 10, accepted his plea seeking further extension of bail.

The accused was handed over a copy of the charge sheet and other related documents filed against him by the Special Investigation Team of the Kerala police which investigated the case.

India: IAF gets first Apache Guardian attack helicopter

New Delhi, May 11 (PTI) US aerospace major Boeing has handed over first of the 22 Apache Guardian attack helicopters to the Indian Air Force, nearly three-and-half years after a multi-billion dollar deal for the choppers was sealed.

Senior IAF officials said the addition of AH-64E (I) Apache helicopter is a significant step towards modernisation of the force's chopper fleet.

The helicopter has been customised to suit IAF's future requirements and would have significant capability in mountainous terrain, they said.

India: BJP LS candidate in WB booked for molesting minor girl

Kolkata, May 10 (PTI) BJP candidate for Diamond Harbour Lok Sabha constituency, Nilanjan Roy has been booked under the POCSO Act for allegedly sexually molesting one minor girl inside a house at Falta in West Bengal, police said Friday.

The West Bengal Commission for Protection of Child Rights (WBCPCR) sources said the body received a complaint from the alleged victim against the inactiveness of the state police in arresting the accused.

ISLAMABAD, May 11 (APP): Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Saturday said that people of Pakistan were facing difficulties with courage and determination along with their captain.

In a tweet the SAPM said that the goal of Prime Minister Imran Khan was permanent treatment of the cancer spread in the system.

She said that the development of strong autonomous institutions, eradication of corruption, poverty and inflation and development of backward areas were top priorities of the government.

Shanahan says military won’t leave until border is secure

MCALLEN, Texas (AP) — Acting Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan visited a border city in Texas on Saturday and said he intends to accelerate planning to secure the border and bolster the administration’s ability to accomplish that without the Pentagon’s continuous help.

He also offered assurances to perhaps two dozen Border Patrol agents and other officials at the McAllen Border Patrol Station that the Pentagon would not withdraw its military support prematurely.

Etihad, a few others submit bids for Jet Airways

Mumbai, May 10 (PTI) State Bank, which leads the consortium of the lenders of Jet Airways Friday said they have received bids from Etihad Airways and a few unsolicited parties to take over the grounded airline.

The consortium of 26 lenders which now owns 51 percent in the airline, had invited expressions of interest between April 8 and 12 and had received four preliminary bids.

Friday was the last day to submit financial bids by the qualified bidders.
