India: Boy mauled to death by stray dogs

Bhopal, May 11 (PTI) A six-year-old boy was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs in the city, police said on Saturday.

The incident took place on Friday evening in Shiv Sangam Nagar, police said.

"Six stray dogs attacked the boy, Sanju Jatav, when he was playing on a ground near his house. His mother, who was nearby, raised an alarm and tried to shoo away the dogs. But the canines attacked her as well," Awadhpuri police inspector M L Bhati said.

Sanju, who bled profusely as a result of the attack, was rushed to a hospital. However, he died on the way, he said.

Investigative committee opens criminal case after gas explosion in Rostov

ROSTOV-ON-DON, May 12. /TASS/: Russian Investigative committee has opened a criminal case after a domestic gas explosion in Rostov Region killed two people, the press service told TASS on Sunday.

"Investigators opened a criminal case due to negligence in the Kamensky District after two people were killed in a household gas explosion in a residential building.

Investigators and criminologists are working at the scene of the crime. Documents relevant to the case have been taken from the gas company that provided service to the area.

Indian Polls: EC must check vehicles of PM, union ministers: Mamata

Hasnabad/Dum Dum (WB), May 11 (PTI) Trinamool Congress chairperson Mamata Banerjee Saturday alleged that the BJP is using money to buy votes and demanded that all vehicles, including helicopters used by the prime minister and union ministers, be checked by the Election Commission.

Banerjee asked the EC to check even cars and the helicopter used by her, if need be.

She cautioned voters about outsiders and alleged that Union ministers travelling with 'Z' and 'Y' category security carry funds in their vehicles.

Armed militants storm 5-star hotel in Pakistan's Gwadar port city, 1 killed: police

Karachi, May 11; PTI/GANASHAKTI:  At least three heavily-armed militants on Saturday stormed a five-star hotel in Pakistan's port city of Gwadar in the restive Balochistan province, leading to a shootout with security personnel, police said.

Additional police force, anti-terrorism force and army are all present at the Peal Continental (PC) Hotel to handle the situation, Dawn news quoted Gwadar Station House Officer (SHO) Aslam Bangulzai as saying.

India: FIR against Bihar BJP MP after cash recovery from hotel room

Patna, May 11 (PTI) An FIR was lodged against sitting BJP MP from Sheohar, Rama Devi, following recovery of Rs 4 lakh in cash from a hotel in East Champaran district, where she had been putting up, police said here on Saturday.

The complaint was lodged at Chhatauni police station area in the district, where Rs 4.06 lakh was recovered late Friday night from the hotel where Rama Devi, part of whose constituency falls in East Champaran, has been staying.

6 dead after bus overturns in S. Chile

SANTIAGO, May 11 (Xinhua): At least six people were killed and 30 others injured after a bus overturned in the La Araucania region of south-central Chile, according to the Pullman bus company that owns the vehicle on Saturday.

The accident occurred Saturday morning, claiming the lives of four women and two men, one of whom was a Paraguayan citizen, said Jose Silva, manager of corporate affairs.

Causes of the accident have yet to be determined, given the bus was currently on technical revisions, Silva told the electronic news site EMOL.

Utah holds exhibition to honor Chinese railroad workers' contribution

SALT LAKE CITY, the United States, May 11 (Xinhua): A photo exhibition is held in the western American state of Utah throughout May to commemorate thousands of Chinese workers' contributions to building the first U.S. transcontinental railroad.

The bilingual photography exhibition, curated by Stanford University and featuring the stories of the Chinese rail workers during the construction of the railroad in 1860s, runs from May 1 to 31 in Park City near Salt Lake City. It also travels to other parts of Utah.

Pak women golf team leave for Thailand

LAHORE, May 11 (APP): A two-member ladies golf team, comprising Parkha Ijaz and Aania Farooq, accompanied by a Lady Manager Zeenat Ayesha, left here on Saturday for Thailand to compete in the 27th Singha Thailand Ladies Open Golf Championship.

This Championship is co-hosted by Thailand Ladies Golf Association and Amata Spring Country Club and will be contested over three rounds from 14th May to 16th May, said a spokesman for Pakistan Golf Federation while talking to APP.
