Myanmar plane lands safely amid nose wheel failure

YANGON, May 12 (Xinhua): A Myanmar National Airlines plane landed safely at Mandalay airport after suffering a nose wheel failure on Sunday morning, a police officer of the airport told Xinhua.

The accident caused panic among the 80 passengers on board, however, it resulted in no injury.

The airliner, Embraer 190, en route from Yangon to Mandalay, the second largest city in the central part of country, met with the accident while landing at the Tada U international airport at about 9 a.m. local time.

It tried to land safely while some smoke was monitored.

India: Country-made gun factory unearthed

Kanpur: Police caught a criminal red-handed while making country-made gun following a raid in one house at Rail Bazaar here on Saturday. Upon continous and rigorous  interrogation he revealed that the gun making factory had been running for the past several years.

After searching the house the police recovered tools required for making the gun.

According to the police, one Ramnaresh r/o Narwal was held with as many as four country-made guns and also disclosed of the persons' names whom he had sold the country-made guns. 

India: Two SpiceJet Boeing flights suffer mid-air glitches

Mumbai, May 11 (PTI) Two of the SpiceJet's Boeing passenger planes- one from Mumbai and other from Bengaluru- suffered mid-air technical glitches, forcing their pilots to terminate journeys with one flight landing back in Mumbai and second diverted to Nagpur Saturday.

SpiceJet flight SG-611, which departed from Mumbai's Chhatrapapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport for Chennai around 7.30 am, returned to the city airport due to a mid-air technical glitch after being airborne for about 16 minutes, a source said.

15 killed in road mishap in south India

NEW DELHI, May 11 (Xinhua): As many as 15 persons were killed and six injured in a road accident in India's southern state of Andhra Pradesh on Saturday, local media reports said.

The road mishap occurred when a passenger bus collided with another vehicle in Andhra Pradesh's Kurnool district.

The injured were reportedly admitted in a nearby local hospital.

According to the media reports, while 13 people died instantly at the accident site, two others died in the hospital.

Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing lead China's mobile payment development

BEIJING, May 11 (Xinhua): Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing were the top three Chinese cities seeing the strongest development in mobile payment in 2018, a recent report showed.

The ranking was based on indexes measuring the mutual promotion between mobile payment and urban competitiveness, according to a report on China's mobile payment development jointly released by the State Information Center, China Economic Information Service, and Ant Financial.

India: 1 dead, 14 injured in communal clash in Assam's Hailakandi

Hailakandi (Assam), May 10; PTI/GANASHAKTI: The Army has been called in to maintain peace after curfew was clamped in this district of Assam on Friday following a communal clash that left one person dead and 14 others injured, officials said.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal has ordered an inquiry into the incident.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli said the curfew was clamped from 6 pm in the district till 7 pm of May 12 as some groups were trying to "indulge in violence and there is apprehension of grave risk and danger to human life and property".

At least 13 militants killed in S. Afghan clashes

KABUL, May 12 (Xinhua): At least 13 Taliban militants were killed after clashes erupted between police and militants in Afghanistan's southern province of Kandahar on Saturday, Ministry of Interior Affairs said Sunday.

"Afghan National Police came in contact with militants in Nadir Khan village, Maruf district, Kandahar province; the clashes left 13 militants dead and nine others wounded," the ministry said in a statement.

There were no casualties on the side of national police, the statement added.

Over 90 kilograms of heroin seized in eastern Turkey

VAN, 12 May 2019; AA: Gendarmerie forces impounded 91 kilograms heroin in Turkey's eastern Van province, according to a statement Sunday.

The statement said the heroin was seized in Ipekyolu district from the back of a truck which was carrying cattle.

Three people were arrested in connection with the illegal drug.

Indian Polls: 6th Phase polling starts, EVM glitches reported

New Delhi, May 12 (PTI) Complaints about malfunctioning EVMs poured in from several places of the national capital on Sunday where voting is underway.

Adarsh Gupta, a resident of Matia Mahal area, claimed that at polling booth number 84, 85 and 86, electronic voting machines were initially not working in the morning.

Aam Aadmi Party's Malviya Nagar MLA Somnath Bharti alleged that EVMs at booths number -- 116,117 and 122 -- were not functioning.

India: Ban on NLFT, ATTF to continue for five years

Agartala, May 11 (PTI) The ban on the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) will continue for five years, a notification of the Ministry of Home Affairs said.

The notification issued by the joint secretary to the department, Satyendra Garg, on May 9 which was made available here Saturday said, there is sufficient cause for declaring NLFT and ATTF as unlawful associations with effect from October 3, 2018 for a period of five years.

Vietnam, Myanmar to expand cooperation in defense, anti-crime

HANOI, May 11 (Xinhua): Vietnam and Myanmar agreed here on Saturday to expand cooperation to potential spheres, including navy, military medicine, defense industry, logistics, search and rescue, and fighting crimes related to national and regional security.

The consensus was reached in Hanoi on Saturday when Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with Myanmar President U Win Myint, who is in Vietnam to attend the United Nations Day of Vesak celebration, Vietnam News Agency reported.

India: Fire in Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express, none injured

Bhubaneswar, May 11; PTI: A fire broke out on Saturday in Bhubaneswar-bound Rajdhani Express between Balasore and Soro railway stations of Odisha, official sources said.

The fire broke out between 12.50 pm to 1 pm and severely damaged the power car in the rear of the train, but did not spread to any other coach, an official said.

All passengers of the train are safe, he said.
