India: Two brothers among three booked for rape in Rajasthan

Jaipur, May 7 (PTI) Three persons, including two brothers, were Tuesday booked for raping a 17-year-old girl in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, police said.

The incident took place on Monday when the girl was alone at her home as her mother had gone to attend a wedding, they said.

The accused barged into the home and raped the girl, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Bayana Chetram Sevda said.

Backers 'failed to follow through' in abortive uprising: Guaido

7 May 2019; AFP: Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido said Monday that backers who had pledged support for his abortive uprising last week had "failed to follow through" to dislodge President Nicolas Maduro.

But that "doesn't mean that they won't do it soon," Guaido told AFP in an interview in Caracas.

Guaido, recognized as interim president by more than 50 countries, said it was "obvious today, there is widespread discontent from which the armed forces aren't immune."

Trump’s ex-lawyer arrives at prison

NEW YORK (AP) — President Donald Trump’s ex-lawyer and fixer has arrived at an upstate New York prison to start a three-year sentence for crimes including campaign finance violations related to hush-money payments made on Trump’s behalf.

A vehicle carrying Michael Cohen arrived at around 11:30 a.m. EDT Monday at the federal prison in Otisville, about 70 miles (113 kilometers) northwest of New York City.

US stocks slide after threat from Trump to raise tariffs

Turkey's election body rules for Istanbul election re-run

ANKARA; 7 May 2019; AA: Turkey’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) on Monday announced that a do-over election in Istanbul will be held on June 23.

The council members accepted the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party's objection to the local election results in Istanbul with seven votes in favor and four against.

According to the YSK, the decision was taken as some presiding officers and polling staffs, who are supposed to be civil servants as per Turkish law, served during the elections.
