Trump blasts Democrats after Barr testimony

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Donald Trump says calls from some Democratic lawmakers for Attorney General William Barr to resign are “so ridiculous.”

Trump tells Fox Business Network’s Trish Regan that he heard Barr “performed incredibly well” in testimony Wednesday before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The president noted that three of the senators who questioned Barr are running for the presidency and accused them of “ranting and raving like lunatics, frankly.”

Almost half World Heritage sites could lose glaciers by 2100

GENEVA, May 1 (Xinhua): Glaciers are set to disappear entirely from nearly half of World Heritage sites if current emissions continue, the first global study of glaciers at those locations said Wednesday.

Co-authored by scientists from the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) in Gland near Geneva, the study is published in full in the journal Earth's Future.

The authors predict glacier extinction by 2100 under a high emission scenario in 21 of the 46 natural World Heritage sites where glaciers are currently found.

SAS cancels more flights as labor talks with pilots continue

COPENHAGEN, Denmark (AP) — Scandinavian Airlines is canceling more flights as talks between the carrier and the striking pilots continued in the Norwegian capital.

The airline says 429 more flights were canceled Thursday on top of the 280 announced earlier for the day, totaling 709 flights being grounded which is affecting about 54,000 passengers.

The cancellation comes in addition to hundreds more since pilots began an open-ended strike on Friday because of the collapse of pay negotiations.

Philippine May Day marchers rally against Duterte

Manila, May 1 (AFP) Thousands of Philippine protesters marched in Labour Day rallies on Wednesday, torching a giant effigy of President Rodrigo Duterte as they attacked his economic policies' impact on the nation's poor.

Rows of marchers flew red banners and chanted near the presidential palace in Manila, where they set fire to the horned effigy adorned with Chinese and US flags -- the two competing powers in the Philippines.

Grand Canyon state expects more visitors from China

GRAND CANYON, the United States, May 1 (Xinhua): China will soon overtake Europe to become the top outbound tourist market of the U.S. state of Arizona, tourism officials here have said.

"We expect China to become our number one overseas tourist market by 2025," Scott Dunn, public information officer for the Arizona Tourism Board (ATB), told Xinhua in a recent interview.

Mount Everest clean-up team picks up 3 tonnes of garbage

India: Lokpal office to move out of Delhi's five star hotel

New Delhi, May 2 (PTI) The office of country's first Lokpal, the anti-corruption ombudsman, will move out of a five-star luxury hotel in Delhi to its own permanent address.

At present, the office of Lokpal works from 'The Ashok' hotel in Chanakyapuri here.

"The government is in the process of searching a permanent office for Lokpal," the personnel ministry replied to an RTI application filed by this PTI journalist.
