Japan ready to celebrate beginning of new imperial era

TOKYO, April 30 (Xinhua): Japanese people, immersed in a jubilant mood to welcome the beginning of a new era, planned on Tuesday to celebrate Reiwa in various activities, starting on May 1 with the ascent of Crown Prince Naruhito to the throne.

Japanese Emperor Akihito in his final speech as a monarch on Tuesday declared his abdication and said he sincerely hoped for a stable future for Japan and peace and happiness around the world.

Putin demands revision of oil quality control system

MOSCOW, April 30. /TASS/: The Russian oil pipeline operator Transneft should revise the system of oil quality control for main oil pipelines, President Vladimir Putin said on Tuesday at the meeting with Transneft CEO Nikolai Tokarev.

"Self-control is not sufficient," the head of state said. "It means that this system should be changed," Putin said. "Do this definitely and report to the prime minister," he added.

Number of people detained during protests in Venezuela increased to 83

CARACAS, May 1. /TASS/: At least 83 people were detained on Tuesday in Venezuela during protests against the government, Head of Foro Penal Venezuelan non-governmental organization (NGO) Alfredo Romero said on Twitter.

"We confirm the information on 83 arrests for participation in demonstrations today," he wrote. According to NGO estimates, most people 59 were detained in Zulia state. In other regions, the number of detainees varies from one to four. Earlier, human rights activists talked about 25 people in detention.

Security Council renews UN mandate for Western Sahara

UNITED NATIONS, April 30 (Xinhua): The UN Security Council on Tuesday adopted a resolution to renew the mandate of the UN Mission for the Referendum in Western Sahara (MINURSO) for another six months, till Oct. 31, 2019.

Resolution 2468 won the support of 13 of the 15 members of the Security Council. Russia and South Africa abstained.

The resolution emphasizes the need to achieve a realistic, practicable and enduring political solution to the question of Western Sahara.

Venezuelan opposition barricades streets in Caracas

MOSCOW, April 30. /TASS/: The Venezuelan opposition forces have taken to the streets of Caracas on Tuesday in order to declare support to the country’s opposition leader Juan Guaido. Guaido’s supporters have begun to barricade several streets in Caracas, the EFE news agency reports.

Earlier, Guaido published a video on Twitter, in which he addressed the Venezuelan military to take to the streets in order to "end the usurpation" in the country.

WADA successfully retrieves doping samples from Moscow lab

MOSCOW, April 30. /TASS/: Experts of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) have successfully retrieved doping samples from the Moscow laboratory, the WADA press service informed on Friday.

"WADA can confirm that a five-person team has successfully retrieved 2,262 samples from the laboratory, which had been split into A and B samples and contained within 4,524 collection bottles," the press service stated. "The samples have now been taken out of Moscow and are on their way to a WADA-accredited laboratory outside of Russia".

Energy Department says it will remove plutonium from Nevada

RENO, Nev. (AP) — U.S. Energy Secretary Rick Perry is pledging to expedite the removal of weapons-grade plutonium secretly hauled to Nevada last year as the state and Trump administration remain locked in a court battle about whether the shipment was legal.

The Energy Department intends to start removing the highly radioactive material in 2021 and finish by the end of 2026, Perry said in an April 24 letter to U.S. Sen. Catherine Cortez Masto, a Nevada Democrat.

Venezuelan military split, says parliament’s envoy

MEXICO, April 30. /TASS/: The move by a group within the Venezuelan military in support of Venezuelan opposition leader Juan Guaido shows a split within the country’s armed forces, representative of the Venezuelan National Assembly (parliament) to Mexico Reynaldo Diaz said in an interview with the Noticias MVS radio station.

India: CSA University students exchanged punch

Kanpur: Chandrasekhar Azad Agricultural University saw another sight of fight among the senior and junior students on Tuesday evening. The senior students along with outsiders created ruckus. 

Reaching at the Tilak Hostel they created all the din. They not only beat the students but also tried to damage the hostel room' s door. At about 4.30 pm on Tuesday unidentified outsiders along with nearly three senior students reached the hostel and started abusing other students. 

Antibiotics may treat endometriosis: study

CHICAGO, April 30 (Xinhua): Researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis have found in mice that treatment with an antibiotic reduces the size of lesions caused by endometriosis.

Studying mice, the researchers found that some of the gut microbes linked to bowel problems also feature prominently in endometriosis. When they treated the mice with the broad-spectrum antibiotic metronidazole, the lesions became smaller, and inflammation also was reduced.
