9 Apr 2019; DW: A Hong Kong court on Tuesday found the top leaders of the "Umbrella Movement" guilty of conspiracy to commit public nuisance and incitement for their roles in the 2014 pro-democracy demonstrations.

The trial has sparked concerns about the erosion of political freedoms in the semi-autonomous Chinese city.

Germany to join UN monitoring mission in Yemen

8 Apr 2019; DW: The German government is planning to take part in a United Nations observer mission in Yemen, which has been torn by civil war since 2014, German media reported Tuesday.

The mission will help implement and monitor a ceasefire in the port city of Hodeida as outlined by a Security Council resolution from December. Germany will reportedly send a maximum of 10 unarmed soldiers and police, German news agencies reported, citing a government briefing document.

3,600-year-old shipwreck found in Mediterranean

ANTALYA, 8 Apr 2019; AA: A merchant ship some 3,600 years old has been found off Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.

The 14-meter (46-foot) shipwreck loaded with copper ingots was discovered by an underwater research team from Akdeniz University in Antalya, southern Turkey.

Antalya Governor Munir Karaoglu hailed the discovery as a “breakthrough” in underwater archaeology.

Hitler would have committed suicide if he witnessed Modi's activities

Raiganj (WB), April 9 (PTI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi was "baptized in politics through violence and riots", West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said Tuesday, claiming that Adolf Hitler would have committed suicide if he witnessed Modi's activities.

Addressing a rally here, Banerjee also said that the grand old party has failed to put up a strong fight against the BJP, leading to the growth of the saffron party.

Modi is scared of debating me on corruption: Rahul

New Delhi, Apr 9 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi asked Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday if he was "scared" of debating with him on corruption and suggested that they could go "open book" for it.

Gandhi has been repeatedly daring Modi to debate with him on issues of national security, especially the Rafale fighter jets deal, asserting that when it happens, the truth will be out in the open.

Indian Polls: Arunachal has 29 candidates with criminal records

Itanagar, Apr 9 (PTI) A report by an election watchdog has revealed that 29 of the 184 candidates contesting the April 11 Assembly elections in Arunachal Pradesh have criminal antecedents.

Nine of the 29 candidates belong to the Congress, the report by Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) said.

Singaporean PM arrives in Malaysia for annual meeting

KUALA LUMPUR, April 8 (Xinhua) -- Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong arrived in Malaysia on Monday for a working visit.

The visit is in conjunction with the 9th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders Retreat, an annual event held alternately in Malaysia and Singapore, and is the first between Lee and incumbent Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad, the Malaysian foreign ministry said in a statement.
