India: Former Gujarat CM Vaghela confirms he will join NCP

Ahmedabad, Jan 25 (PTI) Former Gujarat Chief Minister Shankarsinh Vaghela Friday confirmed he will soon join the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), starting a new political innings after stints in the Congress and the BJP.

Vaghela said he took the decision after discussion with NCP president Sharad Pawar and a formal announcement of him joining the party can be expected by Sunday from Mumbai.

India: IndiGo to start direct flights to Istanbul from Mar 20

New Delhi, Jan 25 (PTI) No-frills airline IndiGo will start daily direct flights from the national capital to Istanbul from March 20.

IndiGo would be the first Indian airline to fly to Turkey and Istanbul would be the 16th international destination for the budget carrier, the airline said in the release Friday.

IndiGo, which is India's largest carrier in terms of domestic market share, would operate daily non-stop flights between Delhi and Istanbul from March 20, with A321 aircraft, the release said.

Two UN peacekeepers killed by mine in Mali

26 Jan 2019; DW: Two Sri Lankan peacekeepers with the UN's force in Mali have been killed and six others injured when their vehicle hit an explosive device in the central Mopti region, the UN said Friday.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and the Security Council condemned the attacks.

"The secretary-general recalls that attacks targeting United Nations peacekeepers may constitute war crimes under international law," his office said in a statement.

India: Voter's revised list published

KANPUR: As many as 1.10 Lakh voters have been included in all the ten assembly seats of recently published voter’s revised list.

Women have shown interest in registration and Kidwai Nagar assembly constituency has seen a marked increase of 7,479 female voters followed by Kalyanpur (7,364), Cantonment (7,244) and Govindnagar (6,973).

Canadian youth charged in terror 'plot,' explosive seized

Montreal, Jan 26 (AFP) A minor has been arrested in Canada and charged with two terrorism-related offenses, police said on Friday after the seizure of a suspected explosive.

Superintendent Peter Lambertucci of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police told reporters that Canadian investigators received in late December "credible FBI information regarding an attack plot with no specific time, date, or location affixed to it".

India: Youth's bike falls into cave, dies later

KANPUR: One youth lost his precious life in a 10-feet deep cave on Panki-Kalyanpur road here on Thursday late night. Jalkal had dug up a pothole in order to repair the water pipeline. But it was not filled up properly after completion of repairing work. Even barricading was not done suitably. The bike entangled into the wooden log and fell into the deep opening. The rider was battling between life and death inside the ditch.

Medvedev invites US to imagine Venezuelan-style change of president in Washington

Terror suspect in Florida bank attack dreamed of hurting classmates

SEBRING, Fla. (AP) — A man accused of fatally shooting five women at a small-town bank in Florida had dreamed of hurting classmates in high school and had long been fascinated with killing, police and a former girlfriend said Thursday.

The slayings did not appear to be part of a robbery, and Zephen Xaver had no apparent connection to the SunTrust branch or the four employees and one customer who were killed Wednesday, police said.

At least 1 person killed, multiple others shot at bar in central Pennsylvania

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say at least one person has been killed and multiple people have been shot by a gunman who opened fire at a hotel bar in central Pennsylvania.

WHTM-TV reports said the shooting occurred Thursday about 10:30 p.m. at P.J. Harrigan’s Bar & Grill on Atherton Street in State College. The bar is located inside the Ramada Hotel & Conference Center and about two miles (3 kilometers) from Penn State University’s main campus.

Police said the woman was shot and killed at the bar. Two others were also injured in the shooting.

Democrat-backed bill to temporarily open U.S. government fails in Senate

WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (Xinhua) -- A Democrat-backed bill to temporarily open the U.S. government without funding a border wall requested by the White House failed to pass the U.S. Senate on Thursday.

The bill, which would fund government agencies until Feb. 8 and needs 60 yes-votes to process, was supported by 52 and opposed by 44.

US diplomats in Venezuela to be stripped of immunity in 72 hours

MOSCOW, January 24./TASS/. Venezuelan Ambassador to Russia Carlos Rafael Fario Tortosa said on Thursday that the staff of the US diplomatic mission in Venezuela would be stripped of diplomatic immunity after 72 hours President Nicolas Maduro had given them to leave the country.
