Ukrainian President warns of threat of 'full-scale war' with Russia

Kiev; 28 Nov 2018; GANASHAKTI:  Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Tuesday warned of the threat of "full-scale war" and said Russia had sharply increased its military presence on their shared border as tensions escalate between the ex-Soviet neighbours.

The crisis also threatened growing diplomatic fallout with US President Donald Trump warning that he may cancel a long-awaited summit with Russia's Vladimir Putin.

India: Two Kashmiris killed by Indian Security Forces in Pulwama

Srinagar, Nov 29 (PTI) Two Hizbul Mujahideen militants, both close aides of outfit commander Riyaz Naikoo, were killed Thursday in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said.

"Based on a credible input about presence of terrorists at Sharshali in Awantipora area of Pulwama district, a cordon and search operation was launched swiftly by security forces in the early hours of Thursday," a police official said.

India: ISRO launches earth monitoring satellite

Sriharikota (AP), Nov 29 (PTI) Adding another feather to its cap, ISRO's workhorse rocket PSLV-C43 Thursday successfully injected into orbit India's earth observation satellite HysIS.

The 30 other co-passenger international satellites including those from the United States of America and Australia among others, will soon be placed into orbit.

The rocket lifted off majestically into cloudy skies in a burst of orange flames at 9.57 am from the first launch pad at this spaceport at the end of the 28-hour countdown.

Delhi Police Asst Commissioner of Police commits suicide

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) An ACP-rank officer allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the police head quarters building in central Delhi on Thursday, police said.

The deceased identified as Prem Vallabh was posted in crime and traffic unit of Delhi Police.

Police said he was in his 50s.

Kisan rally throws traffic in a tizzy in parts of Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 29 (PTI) Farmers from different parts of Delhi who began their march towards Ramlila Maidan Thursday as part of a massive kisan rally planned in the city, sent traffic into a tizzy in some parts of the national capital.

On Thursday morning, farmers arrived at Anand Vihar railway station where they were welcomed by members of Left-backed students' outfit AISA.

Farmers also reached Bijwasan in southwest Delhi and began their march towards Ramlila Maidan.

California bar terrorist had enough ammo to kill many more

THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. (AP) — The gunman who killed 12 people in a crowded Southern California bar had more than 150 bullets left to fire but stopped shooting to ambush arriving officers, killing one of them, police said Tuesday.

Investigators said they still don’t know why 28-year-old Ian David Long attacked staff and customers at the Borderline Bar and Grill in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks on Nov. 7.

28 Nov 2018; AFP: A crashed Lion Air jet should have been grounded over a recurrent technical problem before its fatal journey, Indonesian authorities said Wednesday, as details from the new jet's flight data recorder suggested that pilots struggled to control its anti-stalling system.

The preliminary crash report from Indonesia's transport safety agency also took aim at the budget carrier's poor safety culture, but did not pinpoint a cause of the October 29 accident, which killed all 189 people on board.

Senators grilling US officials over Khashoggi response

WASHINGTON (AP) — Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told senators Wednesday that America’s national security interests are at stake as they consider a vote to halt U.S. involvement in the Saudi-led war in Yemen.

In prepared remarks released ahead of a closed-door Senate briefing, Pompeo said diplomatic efforts to end the conflict were underway.

“The suffering in Yemen grieves me, but if the United States of America was not involved in Yemen, it would be a hell of a lot worse,” Pompeo said.

Guterres says UN will firmly support Palestinian people

UNITED NATIONS, Nov. 28 (Xinhua) -- United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres pledged on Wednesday that the UN will firmly support the Palestinian people.

"The United Nations will not waver in its commitment to the Palestinian people," the UN chief said in his remarks observing the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, which falls on Nov. 29 each year.

MADRID (AP) — Chinese President Xi Jinping issued an impassioned defense Wednesday of free markets’ ability to combat economic uncertainty as he sought allies amid his nation’s worsening trade dispute with the United States.

In a speech to lawmakers in Spain, where Xi is on a state visit before attending the Group of 20 leaders’ summit in Argentina, the Chinese president said the world is facing “instability, uncertainty and hot topics without precedents in our history.”
