India: Togadia asks RSS to clarify stand on Ram temple issue

Ahmedabad, Nov 28 (PTI) Right-wing leader Pravin Togadia Wednesday asked the RSS to clarify its stand on the Ram temple issue and sought to know why the Modi government had failed to build the temple so far.

Referring to the Vishwa Hindu Parishad's 'Dharma Sabha' held in Ayodhya on Sunday, Togadia, who has now floated Antarrashtriya Hindu Parishad (AHP), alleged that it might be an attempt to help the BJP in the assembly elections in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

German terrorist sentenced to 14 years for Dortmund bus bomb

27 Nov 2018; AFP: A German man who launched a shrapnel bomb attack on the team bus of football club Borussia Dortmund in April 2017 to make money on the club's shares diving was on Tuesday sentenced to 14 years in jail.

A court in Dortmund found Sergej Wenergold, 29, guilty of 28 counts of attempted murder after he detonated three explosive devices while the team bus was en route to the stadium for a Champions League game last year.

Investigators to update timeline of California bar terror attack

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Investigators on Tuesday plan to release a more detailed timeline of a mass shooting at a Southern California bar that killed 12 people in the first news conference since the week of the Nov. 7 attack.

Investigators haven’t said what they believe motivated 28-year-old Ian David Long to open fire at the Borderline Bar and Grill in the Los Angeles suburb of Thousand Oaks. Long, who killed himself, posted on social media about whether people would think he was insane.

Woman describes torture, beatings in Chinese detention camp

WASHINGTON (AP) — A member of the Uighur minority on Monday detailed torture and abuse she says she experienced in one of the internment camps where the Chinese government has detained hundreds of thousands of religious minorities.

Mihrigul Tursun, speaking to reporters in Washington, said she was interrogated for four days in a row without sleep, had her hair shaved and was subjected to an intrusive medical examination following her second arrest in China in 2017. After she was arrested a third time, the treatment grew worse.

Kremlin warns of flare-up of hostilities in eastern Ukraine

MOSCOW (AP) — The Kremlin has warned that the martial law that will go into effect in parts of Ukraine on Wednesday might trigger renewed hostilities in the separatist-held east.

The Ukrainian parliament on Monday adopted a motion by the president to impose martial law for 30 days, something that Ukraine avoided doing even when Russia annexed its Crimean peninsula or sent in clandestine troops and weapons to the war-torn east.

Roadside bomb kills 3 US soldiers in eastern Afghanistan

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — A roadside bomb killed three American soldiers in eastern Afghanistan on Tuesday, the U.S. military said, in what appeared to be the deadliest attack on U.S. forces in Afghanistan in the last 17 months.

The military said that three other service members were wounded when the bomb went off near the city of Ghazni. An American contractor was also wounded, it said. The military did not immediately identify any of the casualties.

Lt. Ubon Mendie, a military spokesman, said the wounded were evacuated and are receiving medical care.

3 policemen accused of cover-up stand trial in Chicago

CHICAGO, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- Three Chicago police officers went on trial on Tuesday for alleged cover-up in the controversial killing of a black teenager by their colleague four years ago.

Jason Van Dyke, the fellow officer, was already found guilty of second-degree murder last month in fatally shooting 17-year-old Laquan McDonald in 2014.

The three Chicago police officers have been accused of falsifying reports to protect Van Dyke. They now face charges of conspiracy, obstructing justice and official misconduct.

Police shooting protest blocks road as mayor urges patience

HOOVER, Ala. (AP) — A mayor’s calls for patience following the shooting of a black man by police at Alabama’s largest shopping mall were met Monday by chanting, marching protesters who blocked one of the state’s busiest roads.

Several dozen protesters holding signs blocked heavily traveled U.S. 31 at Interstate 459 during evening rush hour near the Riverchase Galleria, where a police officer killed 21-year-old Emantic “EJ” Bradford Jr. on Thanksgiving night.

Germans and Americans 'worlds apart' in view of relations

People in Germany and the United States appear to have very different ideas about the state of relations between their countries. Germans see Berlin and Washington increasingly at odds, but Americans are more positive.

A study published on Monday by the Pew Research Center found that Americans and Germans were "worlds apart" in how they viewed their countries' relations with one another. 

While most Germans said current ties were at something of a low point, a comfortable majority of Americans viewed relations positively.

Trump warns Brexit may harm UK-US trade

Washington, Nov 27 (AFP) President Donald Trump warned Monday that the deal taking Britain out of the European Union may inadvertently hamper trade between London and Washington.

"Sounds like a great deal for the EU," he said at the White House, before adding that "we have to take a look at seriously whether or not the UK is allowed to trade."

"You know, right now, if you look at the deal, they may not be able to trade with us, and that wouldn't be a good thing," he said.
