NASA's InSight sends signals to Earth after landing on Mars, deploys solar arrays

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 27 (Xinhua) -- NASA's InSight spacecraft has sent signals to Earth after its successful landing on Mars, indicating that its solar panels are open and collecting sunlight on the Martian surface.

NASA's Mars Odyssey orbiter relayed the signals as well as images showing InSight's landing site, according to a release of NASA on Tuesday.

The solar array deployment ensures the spacecraft can recharge its batteries each day.

India: Yogi gets legal notice for calling monkey Hanuman a Dalit

Jaipur, Nov 28 (PTI) A right-wing group in Rajasthan has sent a legal notice to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath asking him to apologise within three days for allegedly calling Lord Hanuman a Dalit.

During a poll rally in Malakheda of Alwar district on Tuesday, Adityanath had said, "Hanuman was a forest dweller, deprived and a Dalit. Bajrang Bali worked to connect all Indian communities together, from north to south and east to west".

Putin blames Ukraine for standoff, boosts defenses in Crimea

KIEV, Ukraine (AP) — Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday blamed the latest standoff with neighboring Ukraine on the presidential ambitions of Ukraine’s leader, as the Russian military announced it was boosting its defenses in Crimea.

Ukraine, for its part, released what it said was the exact location where its ships were fired on Sunday by Russia, showing that they were in international waters approaching Kerch Strait from the west, not from the east, as Putin suggested.

India: CITU slams govt for strategic sale of AIATSL

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Train and island ferry services in Greece were suspended Wednesday and most Athens public transport was idle as the country’s biggest labor union held a strike against persisting austerity measures.

The transport shutdown prompted Athenians to drive to work, causing major traffic jams in the capital whose center was shut down by two separate strike-related protest marches.

Police said that about 7,000 people in total took part in the peaceful demonstrations to parliament.

At least 10 killed in attack at UK security firm's Kabul compound

At least 10 people were killed after a massive blast outside a British security company's compound in Kabul late Wednesday, officials said, with the attack claimed by the Taliban in the latest violence to target the Afghan capital.

The interior ministry and police both said the blast had been a car bomb targeting a compound which houses G4S, a private British security company, in east Kabul.

India: 12-year-old raped in Rohini

New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI) A 12-year-old girl was allegedly raped by three men in a moving car in Rohini's Narela area on the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday, police said.

Three persons identified as Ravi Kumar, Mohit and Vinod were arrested in connection with the matter, they added.

On Wednesday at around 1.40 am, the police chased a Tata Ace car based on suspicion.

Imran Khan's reference to Kashmir regrettable: MEA

New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI): India on Wednesday termed Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan's reference to Kashmir during the ground breaking ceremony of the Kartarpur corridor "deeply regrettable" and said he chose to politicise a pious moment.

The Ministry of External Affairs said Jammu and Kashmir was an "integral and inalienable" part of India.

India: Minor girl raped by juvenile in outer Delhi

New Delhi, Nov 28 (PTI) A seven-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a juvenile in outer Delhi's Aman Vihar area, police said Wednesday.

The accused took the victim to an isolated area on the pretext of buying chocolates and raped her Tuesday evening, a senior police officer said.

The 16-year-old accused used to live in the same locality and lured the girl in the absence of her parents, who are daily labourers, the officer said.
