European Council president demands Russia return Ukrainian sailors, vessels

BRUSSELS, November 26. /TASS/. Russia must release Ukrainian sailors and ships detained for illegally entering the Sea of Azov on Sunday, European Council President Donald Tusk said on Twitter.

"I condemn Russian use of force in the Azov Sea. Russian authorities must return Ukrainian sailors, vessels and refrain from further provocations. I discussed the situation with President Poroshenko and will meet with his representatives later today. Europe will stay united in support of Ukraine," the tweet reads.

UN Security Council to convene after Russia seizes Ukrainian navy ships near Crimea

The United Nations Security Council will hold an emergency meeting on Monday after Russia seized three Ukrainian navy ships off the coast of Crimea, the US ambassador to the UN, Nikki Haley, wrote on Twitter.

Two dozen Ukrainian naval servicemen in custody in Crimea for border violations

SIMFEROPOL, November 26. /TASS/. Twenty-four crewmembers of the Ukrainian warships that violated the Russian border have been detained in Crimea, Crimea’s head Sergei Aksyonov said on Monday.

"Those wounded are receiving comprehensive medical assistance at a hospital in Kerch. They are in condition of medium gravity. There is no threat to the lives of other 24 Ukrainian seamen who have been detained," he said in an interview with Russia’s television Channel One.

Ukraine mulls martial law after Russia fires on vessels

MOSCOW (AP) — Ukrainian lawmakers were set to consider a presidential request for the introduction of martial law in the country on Monday following an incident in which Russian coast guard ships fired on Ukrainian navy vessels.

An emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council was also called for Monday. The European Union and NATO called for restraint from both sides.

The Ukrainian navy said six of its seamen were wounded when Russian coast guards opened fire on three Ukrainian ships near the Kerch Strait and then seized them late Sunday.

Emirati official claim convicted British academic is MI-6

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — The United Arab Emirates said on Monday the country has pardoned British academic Matthew Hedges, sentenced to life in prison for spying, and that he will be set free.

The announcement came after authorities showed journalists a video of Hedges purportedly saying he was a captain in British intelligence. The news conference was hastily called in Abu Dhabi, the UAE capital.

Emirati authorities had come under increasing international pressure over Hedges’ life sentence, handed down last week.

Israel arrests senior security official of leading airline over suspected cocaine smuggling

JERUSALEM, Nov. 26 (Xinhua) -- A senior security official of Israel's leading airline El Al was arrested along with three others over suspected involvement in cocaine smuggling, the Israeli police said Monday.

The main suspect, Rami Yogev, serves in a classified and sensitive security position in El Al, with responsibilities including coordination between Israel's Shin Bet security agency and the company's overseas missions. He has been working at El Al for 25 years.
