US judge drops doctor genital mutilation charges

22 Nov 2018; AFP: A US judge has dropped federal female genital mutilation charges filed against a Michigan doctor, ruling that Congress overstepped its authority in prohibiting a practice best left to state courts.

In what was hailed a landmark case, Jumana Nagarwala was charged in April 2017 with performing the widely condemned practice on nine girls at a clinic in Livonia, Michigan over a span of 12 years.

In that chaos that would ensue, there may be no Brexit," Hammond said adding that "a smooth exit from the European Union, doing this in an orderly fashion, is worth tens of billions of pounds to our economy."

Indian island police struggle to get body of American

NEW DELHI (AP) — Indian authorities were struggling Thursday to figure out how to recover the body of an American killed after wading ashore on an isolated island cut off from the modern world.

John Allen Chau was killed last week by North Sentinel islanders who apparently shot him with arrows and then buried his body on the beach, police say.

But even officials don’t travel to North Sentinel, where people live as their ancestors did thousands of years ago, and where outsiders are seen with suspicion and attacked.

Greenhouse gas levels in atmosphere hit new high: UN

IAEA calls on North Korea to re-admit nuclear inspectors

VIENNA (AP) — The head of the U.N.’s atomic watchdog has called on North Korea to allow inspectors back in to monitor its nuclear program.

Speaking at a board meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency Thursday, Director General Yukiya Amano noted that Pyongyang had in September talked about denuclearization measures including the “permanent dismantlement of the nuclear facilities in Yongbyon” — a reactor where it produces plutonium.

India: SC slams BJP MP Manoj Tiwari for "taking law into his hands"

New Delhi, Nov 22 (PTI) The Supreme Court Thursday closed contempt proceedings against BJP MP Manoj Tiwari for breaking the civic agency's seal on a premises here in September even as it slammed him for levelling frivolous allegations against the court-mandated committee, saying it shows how "low he can stoop".

A bench headed by Justice Madan B Lokur said the court was "extremely pained" due to his conduct as he is an elected representative and deprecated his action of taking law into his own hands.

India: Husband kills wife over dowry in UP

Kaushambi (UP), Nov 22 (PTI) A 30-year-old woman was allegedly strangulated by her husband over dowry in Gobar Sahai village in Manjhanpur area here, police said Thursday.

Savita was killed by her husband Ramdhan over dowry, according to a complaint lodged by the victim's family, police said.

A case has been registered and search is on to arrest the absconding accused, police said.

Palestinian Foreign Ministry slams Israeli court for displacing 700 Palestinians in E. Jerusalem

RAMALLAH, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Palestinian Foreign Ministry on Thursday slammed the decision of Israel's High Court of Justice to displace 700 Palestinians in East Jerusalem.

The ministry said in a statement that the verdict was based on "false and contradictory pretexts," while criticizing the court for adopting "legally faulty" documents.

Hamas publishes photos of Israeli army unit infiltrating into Gaza

GAZA, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The Islamic Hamas movement on Thursday published eight pictures of an Israeli army undercover unit infiltrating into the Gaza Strip on Nov. 11.

The pictures, published by Hamas armed wing Al-Qassam Brigades on leaflets sent to the press, included two women, six men, a vehicle and a truck used by the Israeli soldiers.

Hamas, which controls Gaza Strip, said that after investigation, "we managed to unveil in details the mission and who carried it out and who was behind it."

Saudi FM warns crown prince a 'red line' in Khashoggi probe

London, Nov 22 (AFP) Saudi Arabia has warned criticism of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is a "red line", after Donald Trump heaped praise on the kingdom in defiance of warnings he was giving Riyadh a pass on a journalist's grisly murder.

Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir said on Wednesday that calls for the crown prince to be held accountable for the grisly killing of Jamal Khashoggi would not be tolerated.
