India: Civilian killings must end in Kashmir

Jammu, Nov 24 (PTI) Communist Party of India (Marxist) leader M Y Tarigami Saturday demanded an immediate end to civilian killings in the Kashmir Valley.

"The unabated civilian killings in Kashmir must be a cause of concern for every right-thinking person in the state and the country," Tarigami said.

Three civilians, including a 14-year-old girl, were killed in Kashmir in the last three-days.

Expressing heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, he said the killings were "highly condemnable".

India: Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray arrives in Ayodhya

Ayodhya (UP), Nov 24 (PTI) Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray arrived here Saturday afternoon along with his family for his two-day visit at the temple town.

The Sena chief, who arrived with his wife Rashmi and son Aditya amidst slogans of "Jai Shri Ram", will offer prayers on the banks of the Saryu river in the evening.

The Sena, which has demanded expediting the construction of a Ram temple in Ayodhya by promulgating an ordinance to the effect, is believed to have sent some 3,000 Shiv Sena supporters by two trains from Maharashtra.

India: Thane court sentences man to life in jail for killing wife

Thane, Nov 23 (PTI) A 25-year-old Navi Mumbai man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a local court for killing his wife in 2014.

Thane Principal District Judge V G Bisht Thursday also imposed a fine of Rs 1,000 on Nareshkumar Vishnu Sahu.

Additional Public Prosecutor Rekha Hirwale said Sahu and his wife Pooja, residents of Nageshwar Shiv Mandir locality in neighbouring Navi Mumbai's Sanpada area, had frequent quarrels over their one-year-old daughter.

Pakistan arrests notorious Khadim Hussain Rizvi, 100 TLP members

Lahore, November 24, 2018; PTI: Pakistani police have arrested over 100 members of the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan, including the radical Islamist party's chief who had given a protest call for Sunday against the acquittal of Christian woman Asia Bibi.

Last month, Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) disrupted daily life across Pakistan by staging widespread protests following Bibi's acquittal in a blasphemy case by the apex court.

Hockey World Cup: India beat Argentina 5-0 in warm-up

Bhubaneswar, Nov 23 (PTI) Indian hockey team geared up for the men's World Cup with a 5-0 thrashing of reigning Olympic champions Argentina in its first warm-up match here on Friday.

Harmanpreet Singh, Lalit Upadhyay, Dilpreet, Nilakanta Sharma and Hardik Singh were the scorers for the Indian team, while Argentina drew a blank.

The first and third goals were penalty corner conversions, while the rest were field goals.

Iran issues e-visa to attract foreign tourists

TEHRAN, Nov. 24 (Xinhua) -- Iran has begun to issue electronic visas for attracting more foreign tourists, Press TV reported on Saturday.

The plan has been implemented since Thursday, Nov. 22, Head of Iran's Cultural Heritage, Handicrafts and Tourism Organization, Ali Asghar Mounesan, was quoted as saying.

The plan is mainly aimed at facilitating travels to Iran by foreign tourists, Mounesan said.

He expressed hope that the move could play a leading role in attracting more foreign tourists to the country.

Shamim (70-70-65-74) had edged out Veer Ahlawat in a playoff last year at the Digboi Golf Links and he repeated the feat for the second year in succession after Gaurav (72-68-69-70) took him into the playoff.

India: Woman raped by three men in her house in UP

Muzaffarnagar, Nov 24 (PTI) A 22-year-old woman was allegedly raped in her house here by three men who made a video of the incident and threatened to make it public, police said Saturday.

The incident took place Friday in Rampuri locality under Civil Lines Police Station area, SHO DK Tyagi said.

According to a complaint lodged by the vicitm's mother, the three accused entered the house and raped the woman.

They also recorded a video of the incident and threatened to make it public if she revealed about it to anyone, the SHO said.

Four-metre sewage line vanished

KANPUR: About 4 metres sewer line remained extinct at the road near Huddard School and the Collectorate here. It came to light after the inspection of the sewer line for diversion of the Sisamau Nullah sewage.

Owing to the vanishing of the line the sewage was not reaching up to the Jajmau sewage treatment plant. The sewage was flowing back at the marked spot during the enhanced pressure released from Bhiarav Ghat pumping station.

Religious freedom at risk in one of five countries: report

23 Nov 2018; AFP: Religious freedom is under threat in one of every five nations around the globe, in part because of an increase in "aggressive ultranationalism", a Catholic NGO said in a report Thursday.

Aid to the Church in Need found incidents of religious persecution in 21 countries in the two years to June 2018, including Niger, Myanmar, India and China.

Acts of discrimination were reported in 17 other countries such as Algeria, Turkey and Russia, it said.

Christian presence in Middle East reduced due to fake values: Lavrov

ROME, November 23. /TASS/. The drastic reduction of Christian presence in the Middle East comes as a result of foreign values being imposed on the residents of the region, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated on Friday during the Mediterranean Dialogues conference in Rome.
