India: No substance in what Modi speaks, says Rahul Gandhi

Vidisha, Nov 23 (PTI) Congress president Rahul Gandhi Friday said Indians have realised that there is no substance in what Prime Minister Narendra Modi speaks, adding the latter is mum on the issues he spoke about before the 2014 elections.

Addressing a campaign rally here for the November 28 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls, Gandhi said Modi's speeches used to be about corruption, farmers and unemployment.

"Today, he doesn't say anything on these issues.

Utah teens stole plane and flew away

VERNAL, Utah (AP) — Sheriff’s deputies arrested two teenage boys they say stole a small airplane at a private airstrip in rural eastern Utah and flew about 15 miles (24 kilometers) before landing successfully at Vernal Regional Airport.

The Desert News reported the 14- and 15-year-old boys stole the single-engine Cessna Thursday from a private airstrip in Jensen along U.S. Highway 40 about 15 miles (24 km) west of the Colorado line.

Passenger tried to jump out of the Air Moldova plane at 10,000M

VW to appeal German court ruling ordering diesel car buyback

BERLIN (AP) — German automaker Volkswagen says it will appeal a court ruling that orders it to buy back a six-year-old diesel vehicle at the original sales price.

In a statement Friday, Volkswagen said it expects an appeals court to overturn the verdict issued last week by judges in the southern German city of Augsburg.

The company has paid billions of dollars in fines and compensation to diesel car owners since 2015 for cheating on emissions tests.

India: Rajasthan BJP suspends 11 rebel leaders

Jaipur, Nov 23 (PTI) The Rajasthan BJP has suspended 11 rebel leaders, including four ministers, for six years over their decision to contest elections against party candidates, a party spokesperson said Friday.

Four ministers, Surendra Goyal (Jaitaran), Hem Singh Bhadana (Thanagaji), Rajkumar Rinwa (Ratangarh) and Dhan Singh Rawat (Banswara), who are contesting as independent candidates, are among those who were suspended on Thursday night after they did not withdraw nomination papers.

The party termed the action "expulsion" for six years.

27 soldiers killed in Afghan army mosque

KABUL, Afghanistan (AP) — An explosion ripped through a mosque inside an Afghan army base in the country’s volatile eastern Khost province as Friday prayers were drawing to a close, killing 27 soldiers and wounding 57, the military said.

The blast may have been set off by a suicide bomber or a remotely detonated bomb but nothing was officially confirmed and details were sketchy. No group immediately claimed responsibility for the explosion.

Man charged in killing, sexual assaults at religious store

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A suburban St. Louis man has been charged with killing one woman and sexually assaulting two others after herding them at gunpoint into the back room of a religious supplies shop.

The arrest of 53-year-old Thomas Bruce ended a two-day manhunt that followed the brazen Monday afternoon attack at a Catholic Supply store in the St. Louis suburb of Ballwin. The attack frightened the region and led some schools, churches and businesses to close.

US Section 301 investigation update "groundless, unacceptable": China

BEIJING, Nov. 22 (Xinhua) -- The new accusations against China made by the United States in the update of the Section 301 investigation disregard the facts and are totally unacceptable, China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) said Thursday.

"China is deeply concerned with the new accusations, and urges the U.S. side to stop making statements or moves that are destructive to bilateral economic and trade ties," MOC spokesperson Gao Feng said at a press conference.
