India: Train runs without guard

KANPUR: The engine of Farakka Express ran without the guard on the tracks. Lucknow bound train got moving up without the guard from the Central station here on Tuesday.

As the train’s guard arrived at the platform no. 9 of the railway station, he did not find his record box. Therefore he right away approached the GRP office to register the first information report.

Electric buses to run on city roads

KANPUR: In order to lessen the pollution in the city areas, the Kanpur region of Uttar Pradesh State Roadways Transport Corporation has taken a decision to run electric buses on its roads.

Although one air-conditioned bus and two non-air-conditioned electric buses were already plying on trial from Kanpur to Lucknow yet there was ample plan to bring electric buses on the city roads from the next year.

India: Cleaning Ganga vital: Bachhendri Pal

KANPUR: On reaching at the city along with her 40 members group, the mountaineer Bachhendri Pal said that cleaning of the river Ganga was more difficult than scaling the Mount Everest. However, it was not impossible. Public support was vital in this movement.

She has been on a river rafting expedition with the Clean Ganga message. She arrived here from Farrukhabad on Sunday.  

India: DM inspects polling booths

An inspection was carried out in the district’s every polling booths on Sunday. During the check-up of the document, the district magistrate Vijay Viswas Pant found several irregularities in the voting list. An action was taken against as many as 8 BLOs including one supervisor in Cantt and Kalyanpur assemblies’ constituencies respectively.       

PM has much to hide about Rafale deal: Cong

New Delhi, Oct 14 (PTI) Continuing with its campaign against the government over the Rafale deal, the Congress Sunday claimed that Prime Minister Narendra Modi was directly involved in it, adding that he had much to hide about it.

Questioning Modi's silence over the deal, senior Congress leader Anand Sharma claimed that only the prime minister was aware that the offset contracts would not be given to Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

Jordan's king says injustice against Palestinians must end

AMMAN, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- King Abdullah II of Jordan said the kingdom's position on the Palestinian cause is unwavering and injustice against the Palestinians must end.

The king made his remarks at the opening of the 3rd ordinary session of the 18th Parliament, where he said it is a must to enable the Palestinians to establish their independent, sovereign state on the 1967 border, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

On the war on terrorism, King Abdullah said Jordan remains committed to its leading role in fighting terrorism and extremism.

Delhi's air quality remains poor: authorities

New Delhi, Oct 14 (PTI) The air quality in Delhi remained poor Sunday with drop in wind speed even as authorities predicted further fall in air quality index of the national capital in the coming days.

The overall air quality index(AQI) recorded at 10 am Sunday stood at 208 which falls in the poor category, according to Centre-run System of Air Quality and Weather Forecasting and Research (SAFAR).

On Saturday, the AQI of the national capital stood at 300.

Mecca Masjid blast case judge joins TJS

Former judge K Ravinder Reddy, who quit after delivering the verdict in the Mecca Masjid blast case, has joined the Telangana Jana Samiti (TJS), part of the opposition alliance led by the Congress for the coming Assembly polls, weeks after expressing keenness to embrace the BJP.

The move is being seen as a shot in the arm for the TJS in the run-up to the December 7 polls. Reddy was welcomed into the party by TJS president M Kodandaram at an event Saturday.

Brisk polling going on in J-K's Samba, 60 per cent voted till 12 pm

Jammu, Oct 13 (PTI) Like first two phases, the enthusiastic voters have thronged polling stations across Samba district of Jammu region in the third phase of the urban local bodies (ULB) elections to seal the fate of 242 candidates in 56 municipal wards. 

Besides Samba, the voting is in progress in the third phase of the four-phased ULB polls in Jammu and Kashmir from 6 am covering a total of 96 wards of eight municipalities 40 wards in Kashmir valley's Anantnag, Baramulla and Srinagar districts. 

Unnao to get CNG unit soon

KANPUR: Unnao will soon equip with a Bio-gas CNG unit. The agricultural wastes shall be used to produce the gas. The crop growing farmers will provide the raw materials to the unit to be set up along the highway extending between Kanpur and Lucknow.

The vehicles running along the highways will obtain CNG filling stations.

All Israeli airlines to stop flying from 2019 due to security concerns: media

JERUSALEM, Oct. 14 (Xinhua) -- Israel's leading airline El Al warns that all Israeli airlines will stop flying from Jan. 1, 2019 because of security concerns abroad, a local newspaper reported Sunday.

The surprising announcement was made by Eli Dapas, El Al chairman, in his urgent letter to the deputy head of Israel's National Security Council and the director general of the Prime Minister's Office, the Hebrew-language newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported.
