Bhim Army chief released – says BJP govt is “scared”

Bhim Army chief Chandrashekhar alias Ravan has been released from Saharanpur jail after Uttar Pradesh government revoked the National Security (NSA) against him.

Release was ordered after considering a representation submitted by his mother, but Chandrashekhar thinks the real reason of his released is because UP government is “scared”. The Dalit leader, however, expects the government to “frame some charges against” him.

9 killed, 46 injured as man goes on stabbing spree in China after ramming car into crowd

Beijing, Sep 12; PTI:  Nine people were killed and 46 others injured when a man drove his SUV into a crowd and later went on a stabbing spree in China's Hunan province on Wednesday evening.

The attack took place as people had gathered in a square by the river in Hengdong county.

The driver, Yang Zanyun, 54, first ploughed through the people with his vehicle and later got out of it and went on a rampage attacking people with a knife.

German Catholic priests abused thousands of children

The universities of Giessen, Heidelberg and Mannheim were involved in the research, which implicated 1,670 priests in sexual abuse spanning from 1946 to 2014.

US extends North Korea-related sanctions

WASHINGTON, September 13. /TASS/. The US Department of Treasury blacklisted Russia’s Volasys Silver Star company located in Vladivostok in terms of sanctions against North Korea, the US Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) reports on Tuesday.

An individual from North Korea and a Chinese company are also hit by sanctions.

Iranian nuclear deal participants to meet on sidelines of UN General Assembly — source

UN, September 14. /TASS/. Participants of the nuclear deal with Iran (Russia, China, the United Kingdom, France, Germany and Iran) will hold a ministerial meeting on September 24 on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York, a diplomatic source in the organization told TASS.

"The meeting was scheduled for September 24," the source said. "It will also be attended by the European Union foreign policy chief, Federica Mogherini."

Putin to visit India in October

MOSCOW, September 13. /TASS/. India expects Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit the country on October 4, Indian Foreign Minister Sushma Svaraj said on Thursday before the start of negotiations with her Russian colleague Sergey Lavrov.

"We look forward to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to India, which will take place on October 4," she noted. "We hope that this visit will facilitate further strengthening of our relations."

Russia to bring trade turnover with India to $30 bln in coming years, deputy PM says

MOSCOW, September 14. /TASS/. Russia and India are on track to bring the trade turnover to $30 bln in coming years, Deputy Prime Minister Yury Borisov said at a meeting with India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in Moscow.

"Over the past years bilateral trade has reached solid growth rates, which if maintained will help us hit the target of $30 bln in coming years," Borisov said.

However, that is a modest result compared with Russia-China trade turnover that is going to "breach the $100 bln level in 2018," he added.

Hurricane Florence hits U.S. East Coast, weakens to Category 1 storm

WASHINGTON, Sept. 13 (Xinhua) -- Hurricane Florence that caused road flooding on the U.S. East Coast weakened to a Category 1 storm on Thursday night, hours before making landfall in the Carolinas.

"Hurricane Florence is producing a life-threatening storm surge and hurricane conditions over portions of eastern North Carolina. The threat of freshwater flooding will increase and spread inland over the next several days," the the U.S. National Hurricane Center tweeted late Thursday night.

India: death toll from chemical factory explosion rises to 7

NEW DELHI, Sept 14 (NNN-Xinhua) -- The death toll from the chemical factory explosion on Wednesday in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has risen to seven, as one more body was recovered in the methane gas boiler tank, police said Friday.

The gas boiler tank exploded on Wednesday at Mohit Petro Chemical Factory in Bijnor district, some 440 km from state capital Lucknow.

At the time, 11 people were working at the site repairing the tank that had developed some fault a couple of days back.

Gunman kills 5 in mass shooting in central California

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 12 (Xinhua) -- An unidentified gunman on Wednesday night killed five people in a mass shooting before taking his own life in Bakersfield of California, 200 km north of Los Angeles, local media reported.

When briefing the media on the case, Kern County Sheriff Donny Youngblood said it was a highly unusual case in which "six people shot and dead in one incident," describing the fatal incident as a "mass shooting."
